Because orgeron is a clown and already failed as a head coach.... and Helton best UCLA while EO didn't.

Helton played at auburn for a couple years... didn't know that until today

Really surprised when I read this. There are a lot of Trojan fans very upset about this hire. I have no dog in that fight but I don't blame them. Pat Hayden has to be one moron of an AD

Yeah, I get the fact that Coach O failing magnificently at Ole Miss was probably the reason why he wasn't hired. I just don't see what this guy has done to prove he's worthy of leading a blue blood football program like USC that Orgeron hasn't also proved.

Oh, well. He can't be any worse than Sarkisian. I considered that to be one of the worst hires I'd ever seen a major program make, and that was before all of the alcoholism stuff came to light.

It's crazy when you consider some of the coaches that are ripe for the picking right now.

I've seen some reports that Chip Kelly told them no thanks. I'm guessing it was that moreso than Miles that pushed them to move forward with the interim hire.

So Herman is still in play for SCAR ... maybe.

Interesting.

This seems like an April Fool's joke or something. I am utterly shocked by this.

Naming an interim coach head coach on the basis of like a few wins is pretty desperate IMO.

Clay Helton's father was Kim Helton...an All SEC OL for UF back in the day. He was considered by a few schools last year for head coaching job.
