That's it. And that was it with Willie Martinez.
Numbers and defense were regressing.
But they started so good, that steps backward didn't appear alarming to most.

It's got nothing to do with Johnson and everything to do with the direction of the defense under Ward.

If the conference numbers keep slipping for 2014, are there more excuses as to how and why? Or are there questions about accountability and corrections?

Are you a woman? This shite ain't dramatic. For one thing, 2 years isn't really enough to decide if a defense is "going in a direction".

I can't fire the guy.

I have no problem waiting to make it a 3rd year, 4th year, and 5th year of regression.

The question is at what point do Gamecocks take notice and wonder/worry/question their coaching personnel?

Fair enough.

Wins and losses are found by running the football.
You won't be 8-5 with a healthy Mike Davis. That's for sure.

Dude.

If you start at 2008 (EJ's first year) then Ward's defenses have been par for the course at worst.

Signalling out 2011 and using that as an average year is beyond retarded. The personnel we had on that team was ridiculous.

Clowney came of the bench for Christ's sake

It doesn't reference 2010 as an average year.
It references a starting point which it was.

It also references a DC with arguably better talent (Clowney) and better recruiting (no?) and a regressive trend in conference play.

Is talent better now than under Johnson?
Should you be expecting numbers in a different direction? Or is that expecting too much? Is asking for the same yards and points allowed too much to ask?

FIFY

I know you want to use 2011 as a starting point so you can project a downward trajectory, but starting there is stupid.

Like I said, if you start at 2008 when EJ got to USC, Ward has been par for the course at worst.

And you also ruined what was a great discussion started by an UGA fan about USC's team. You should have just started your own thread about Ward and let tRant downvote you.

But I think you've already started that thread because you really like this topic

If you want to feel good about yourself and proclaim that your defense is on the rise each year... then i'm happy for you. congrats. you are trending the right direction.

But deep down, you know that this will pop back up in December when the ppg and ypg continue upward.
(And i've never started a thread on this topic... predicting your defense comes up and I offer a glimpse at the recent past to help with the predictions. I'm a public service announcement).

I believe that the state of South Carolina all came to a consensus, and that we should no longer feel any optimism about our school's football program. The (3) glory years are over. UGA fans told us so.

By popular referendum, and to save any further embarrassment, we've decided to disband the football team.

It was a good ride.

Well we wont hold onto to Ward as long as uga held onto grantham. Does that answer satisfy you? The entire point you have been trying to get at makes no sense and you cherry pick stats to back up your weak argument. Worry less about our defense and look inward at how your defense is gonna stop MD28 and BW22. The hoping you can ride gurley into the ground type game wont work for you in Cola.

Well even though ppg went up from 2012 to 2013, due to the great offenses around the league we improved from 7th to 3rd in the conference. Isn't that an improvement?

So just because nobody is saying Ward has been worse than Johnson, every USC fan is saying our defense is "on the rise" each year? gtfo

Has it occurred to you that maybe the players playing the game had something to do with stats? In 2011, we hav Melvin Ingram, Stephon Gilmore, Clowney, DJ Swearinger, and Devonte Holloman all on one defense. That may have something to do with the stats, not solely because EJ was there.

You're making too much sense.

All of those guys are now playing in the NFL.

This year, I think, we've got more future NFLers that are going to be lining-up on our D than on any other team in our history IMHO.

We'll probably field a dozen or more, on the two deep this year, that will eventually end-up on NFL rosters over the course of the next three or four years.

Plus Devin Taylor and Antonio Allen. That 2011 defense was sick. Of course we were going to have a drop off after a lot of those guys left.
