The Greater B'ham TV market is no bigger than the Capital Area of PA (Harrisburg/York)

Three times as many people live in the 7 counties surrounding Philadelphia than the entire state of Alabama

And when you have almost a third of the population headed to games on saturday(with a large portion making a weekend of it) it's hard to get them to go and do it again on sunday

Bingo, the only people who could travel the round trip from the Liberty Bell to Old Main on Penn State in less than 8 hours are the OTers that run 4 flat 40's.

On a football Saturday turn the 8 hours into 12 due to traffic in Happy Valley

Yes, and this would be especially true for the high rollers in the state who might otherwise be paying for luxury boxes for the pro team.

All of these reasons are why I think Alabama has a better shot at supporting a pro team in another sport other than football, but there are problems all around.

I'm confused.. Wouldn't the idea be to have a high revenue and low amount of expenses?

If it were your money or you owned stock, then yes. If you want your athletic program to be the best, then the idea is that theoretically, spending more money = better facilities, recruiting, coaches, etc.

Do you think Yankees fans or other pro fans want their teams having high revenue and low expenses?

High revenue and lower expenses is more profit. Profit is the main goal as well as success. Lsu had more revenue, less expenses, and more success yet is behind tennessee lol. Just seems weird

They aren't my profits, so it doesn't matter to me. Success is the primary objective.

Not that I know or really care but what catch is he missing about LSU being a self sustained athletics program? Just can't figure out where you are going with it? I assumed all LSU fans already knew that our athletics program was self sustained with no money not generated by athletics being used on athletics. Thanks

Penn State was an example of high revenue/low expense.

5 of the 10 former staff members that left town to recruit. Paterno would never spend the money to chase a kid outside the mid atlantic. As our population shifted, these results were less than stellar

Under the new staff kids from California, Texas and Florida are visiting this week

He said all of the other programs on this top 12 list took subsidies, which is untrue. Without reviewing the link again, there were at least two others. The catch he excluded from the statement is lsu was the only one like that, that did it each and every year but not the only ones to have done it in an individual year

Not for a state agency, they don't have shareholders to please and earn money for. They just want to spend all the money they can without going into debt.

LSU gives money back= Winning

Not to mention, when budget cuts forced the state to give less tax money to the university. Athletics increased what they gave back to the university.
It's a shame more states don't have that luxury.

V,B not bad for a program that's going through the toughest time in its history.

I'm curious how many ADs give back. Tennessee shows $1M in the subsidies because students give $150 for season tickets and access to the Rec Center and all other facilities. But the AD gives back $5M to the university.

On a side note, I'd prefer the UTAD treat donations to colleges as donations to the AD.

No, because the Falcons, Saints, and Titans exist. Huntsville could've supported one, but Tennessee beat them to the punch.
