I hate being stuck also, it generally takes a day for wherever they get me to stop being sore.

I got Imitrex today in Deltoid and my arm is pained.

I'm a medic in the Army so I'm used to sticking people and getting stuck for iv's. Doing just blood is/should be crazy easy. All you have to do is hit the vein, that's it. No, worry about making sure the line is in for an extended period, no securing the line to anything, no unscrewing any caps/hubs, no pushing meds, or switching bags.

It would be like telling someone they don't have to make the shot, all they have to do is hit the backboard.

Are you a hard stick? Like, are your veins very hard to be seen? Sometimes that will cause your arm to be sore, because the needle sometimes has to go deeper for the vein and we have to maneuver the needle while it is inside your arm.

That was pre mainstream meth.

Patients compliment all the time on my sticking. You don't have to worry about me fricking your veins up.

Yeah, a lot of people just don't understand the anatomy of a vein very well. I can't stand it when a nurse says someone has rolly veins. It's all about applying rearward traction on the vein to stabilize it. It patients have a lot of fluid in their arm or subcutaneous fat then it will move all over the place if being stuck. The trick is pulling back on the skin to make it stable enough to stick

you also have to think that the people you see are generally physically fit, ripped and muscular with huge veins. 90 year olds in renal failure can present a real challenge

I just want to slap patients like this. I just say "frick my life" in my head the whole time I'm sticking them.

We were taught this lesson. "Pain is the patients problem."

Love living by that.

One thing that does hurt a few days after it happens is the Anthrax vaccines. Holy hell, I heard about it and it didn't hurt. Thought I was hot shite and then about a day or two later I was bitching and moaning.

Felt like someone hit my arm hard as hell.

Exactly. Some people are scared they are going to hurt the patient. I'm like frick it. If it hurts, I'm sorry, but you'll be okay later.
