This. Although I bet the satellite schools under Texas have a lot more students than ours. Pretty sure the medical schools like Southwestern, UTMB, etc have a different endowment separate from the system one, I might be wrong though.

biggest surprise to me was UGA. Guessing blind I would have guessed they were top 5.

Also didn't realize LSU's had gotten that "respectable." Not too long ago it was in Mississippi school territory.

How many of the SEC schools operating within a larger system share endowments with the rest of that system? Apparently aTm and Bama do, but what about LSU, Arkansas, etc? I know, for example, that all the University of California schools are independently endowed. Also, do any schools have independently endowed units? I think VUMC might have its own endowment separate from the rest of Vandy...

I have no idea. All I know is that with most of these schools the endowment has very little to do with athletics if anything. For instance aTm would never use a dime of their endowment money for athletics. With that said I would like to see a statistic for endowment/student population under endowment(include the satellites if they also are under the endowment)

Texas' endowment is larger than A&M's. They are both managed as the Permanent University Fund by the UTIMCO. Over 100 years ago, the legislature divided the fund up to set aside 2/3rds for the University of Texas and 1/3rd for Texas A&M. Both funds are dedicated to the respecive university systems. Through the fund not only are the respective flagship campuses endowed but so are the system schools and the various med schools, hospitals, etc.

For what it's worth, this fund is only open to the UT and A&M systems and the other public schools in Texas are not open to it. Sucks to be them.

I was told somewhere that the PUF is split into thirds technically. 1/3 to A&M, 1/3 to tu, 1/3 to UT Medical School or something like that. UT Med broke away from UTA a few years ago and is receiving it's own percentage independently.

Nothing to back that up though.

Honestly I'm not sure that endowment even effects the general student population that much. Operation budget is probably a better indicator of how much your school is spending/spent on you. And yea, I doubt any endowment money even touches any of our athletic departments.

Arkansas has separate endowments for its Law School, Medical School, and the rest of its system schools, like UALR, UAFS, UAM, etc...

If you include the system like some of those universities did, Arkansas is well over 1 Billion.

Not that it makes me a flying frick either way...

I don't think anyone celebrates 4 dollar gas like we do considering how many former students work in O&G

Yea well it's slowly driving us farmers into the ground so a little mercy please?

When you have 9600 acres of catfish ponds and over 20000 of row crops the fuel bill can get a little pricey.

Texas A&M - We pay a lot more money than the rest of the SEC does to lose to Bama.

Also a high speed rail between A&M and tu would be bad arse. The next logical step would be adding on to Houston then to Dallas. Make CS the central hub for the Lone Star State.

Yes, but not all system schools are included for the PUF.

In the A&M system, only Prarie View, Tarleton, Galveston, the Health Science Center, the extension services and Texas Transportation Insitute are eligible to receive PUF funding.

In the UT system, besides the main campus, it's Arlington, Dallas, El Paso, San Antonio, Tyler, Permian Basis, the medical branch, Southwestern Medical, health science centers (Houston, San Antonio, Tyler), M.D. Anderson and the Institute of Texan Cultures.
