17 Million. They're listed at 3rd in that study behind Harvard and Yale. The PUF generates a ridiculous amount of money

A&M is more than double Vandy.
Yes, but A&M has about 50,000 students, and Vanderbilt has around 13,000.

It's billion, not million. They leave off the last three 0s of each.

Also, that figure is for the UT System, so that endowment is shared among 9 universities (same situation for Alabama with UAB and UAH).

Oh yea. I didn't even consider that. Kentucky is not part of a system. I don't think most SEC schools are.

UT's alone is 7 billion I think. I'm not sure what ours is.

The other schools in our system are much smaller than UTSA, UTD, etc so I would guess it's pretty significant percentage.

Probably because the chart in the link only lists six digits for each school...I did the same thing when I first looked at it.

One cool thing about the PUF is that it's not just oil money.

It's wind money and "rare earth metals" money. Don't know a lot about rare earth metals? They go into every computer monitor, mobile device, flat screen TV, windmill, and electric car. And China owns 90% of the world's rare earth resources.

But they've found some on Texas public lands in West Texas.

These funds are held in trust and only the interest on that money is available today. This ensures that the money will never be depleted.

Thanks for defining "endowment" for us

He was explaining that the PUF is its own endowment to the two main public universities in Texas. Many Arkansas fans know this I'm sure but other fans not familiar with the two schools don't.

Ehh I wouldn't say most.

Alabama has UAB and UAH.
Auburn has AUM.
Tennessee has UTM and UTC
LSU has LSUA, LSUE, and LSUS

There are more.. I just don't feel like finding them all.

Arkansas definitely has satellite campuses. LR and Pine Bluff off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

Exactly. Ya'll are just proving my point I knew Arkansas has UALR UAPB and they have UAMonticello as well. It takes a good amount of time to look up all 14 SEC member schools and their branches.

I just looked it up. LINK

Part of a system: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M,

Not part of a system: Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt

I'm surprised those 3 public schools in there aren't. Especially Kentucky, it seems like that state is big enough to support satellite campuses and such.

Yeah, I thought Kentucky would have one.

I think the state of Mississippi has some weird setup where all of the public universities are forced to have the same standards for admission (or something like that). I just remember Ole Miss and State fans both complaining on here about how Alcorn State and Jackson State mess up their U.S. News rankings because of that. If you go to mississippi.edu it takes you to a statewide system type thing instead of Ole Miss. Maybe an Ole Miss or State fan can explain it better.
