If it were Blackburn, he'd be here right now. He hired another coach at UTC, he doesn't have any pressing issues there, he could be ready to go tomorrow.

They're actually going to frick this up lol

Our Admin can manage to frick it up even if they hire Blackburn. That's how they roll.

Lol, we haven't even formed the search committee yet?

How is that even possible? How long have they known they'd be replacing him? Before the season even started right?

Isn't Peyton the obvious answer here?

Honestly Lyle doesn't deserve any sympathy but it is ridiculous to expect him to be able to manage the football program and its departures without a boss helping him out.

Dooley didn't have one for the summer going into his second year, and he was making less than 2mil a year. Going into his 5th season, and making 4mil-ish a year Butch should be fine. I'm sure he'll ride the excuse to get him another "sympathy" year though.

Yeah personally I'm left wondering if this new Chancellor has any AD type of experience in her past. Cincinnati isn't really at UTs level, so hope she understands that messing this up will not be good for her. Would be smart to let others make the call to make sure her hands are clean if it goes bad. Just hope time doesn't get wasted to be PC by interviewing a female, and adding some color to the mix. Nothing wrong with it if there isn't clear options, but wasting time and money with great options to be PC just chaps my hide.

I'm on the boat that UT will fumble this as the usual.

What crazy is now that Foley has retired the two highest paid ADs in the SEC work for Vanderbilt and Arkansas. David Williams at Vanderbilt makes $3.23 million.

And those two combined they make more than LSU, Bama, A&M, Auburn, and Ole Miss' Athletic Directors combined.

As I recall they didn't do any search before hiring the dreadful incompetent Hamilton internally in 2003.

Yeah, they need to at least get a search committee going. No harm to start looking, but hiring an ad is not something a school wants to rush.

Dooley was an AD for 3 years before he coached here, he was definitely better equipped to handle that situation. What are you basing "he should be fine" on? How has he or the UTAD proven any amount of competence to you in regards to hirings/firings/running things lately?

We need an AD. Now

Tennessee can mess up the simplest of hires. Just get Blackburn.

That's what all the beat reporters keep saying despite the drawn out process. Now suddenly Barnes, Jones, Warlick are supposedly pushing for Gilbert out of the blue. I'm starting to think the beat guys are far more out of touch on this hire than they have been on anything in a long time -- don't even know if I believe the rumor about Gilbert or the coaches wanting him at this point. It wouldn't make much sense for them.

They coaches want Gilbert because Gilbert is better for their job security.

That was the case until we hired a female chancellor.

I really don't think that is the problem.
