They were smart to do that, knowing it would be a colossal undertaking to achieve anything near a smooth transition. They still need to find a good coach of course, which regardless of $$, contracts provides NO guarantee to win games. The focus lately has been on the media/optics transition perception which they hope to somewhat manage or at least be in front of. Bama Board/Execs realized awhile back the inevitable and almost impossible task/challenge of replacing Saban while also placating bama fans. In any event, the process has been well underway and has escalated at a more rapid clip recently.

It's always been Lane. Thus, the PR firm is a great idea.

You have an actual link to anything discussing this, because this would be an interesting read.

Everything is done in max secrecy, but it was nonetheless leaked (then quickly squashed by $$ & lawyers) that Bama wanted and had approached Brian Kelly with an even greater offer than LSU but that ship had sailed.

This reminds me of the aftermath of November 7, 2015 when LSU fans convinced themselves that Alabama had to be on PEDs because of the way they man handled LSU.

Do you remember that?

LINKS....DISCUSSION....CAMP FIRE TALKS regarding Coaching Hires!?!?

Come now dude!?!

Coaching searches in the SEC are more private/secret and dangerous than Military Operations & Nuclear War!

Bama was smart to have the advanced foresight to recruit/desire Brian Kelly, but they were too late. For the "trigonometry" & big bucks Bama threw abd is throwing now at the AI assisted coaching selection process.... the next desperate University of Alabama Coach "answer" that kept coming up (spit out, revealed).... along with the "human" vote/choice element as well.... was clear & unanimous = B.K. Bama wanted and went for Brian Kelly, with an even greater deal/package. But Woodward was too smart and had buttoned up the LSU contract. Regardless, as
sources say Kelly indicated to family that he never really entertained or even approached his attorneys to consider the Bama offer.

Perhaps, like Saban, after LSU discovered and after a few years of coaching...BK may one day also Coach and be put to pasture @ Alabama.

If you don't keep it secret, you might have a fan uprising, a la the great VOLS/Schiano rebellion of 2017.

So spill the beans. That was the greatest coaching search of all time. We demand entertainment.

Especially after Auburn and Jetgate.

But Saban will not be let go because this year or quit in a year he doesn't win a NC. No matter what he says about leaving when he feels he has lost it, his ego will get the better of him until Bama fans turn on him.

Barely any transitions are seamless.

However, there are a few programs that miss only a best or two and they stay in the top echelon of college football.

OSU shows they can do this repeatedly.
Alabama had follies along the way to saban but the follies are over, and should not resurface.

Their program knows how to back the fans down and will get the right guy.

Lane does make sense depending on the situation that he is in once Saban decides to step down.. The only issue is when it comes to Alabama I don't think Kiffin fits that good ole boy narrative that they like head coaches to have. I don't think they will go for some of the things he does via social media and stuff like that. As a Bama fan I would love to see somebody with the personality like Kiffin, we are so used to seeing this buttoned up approach to the program. Replacing Saban you will need a coach who is extremely confident and won't bow down to Bama fans and boosters, can you think of a coach? LOL

I been hearing the same...cogs have been spinning since last season after some comments Saban made in private about being done.

I have a few sauces saying Orgeron to bama basically a done deal

This is all nonsense.

The West is down big time. He has one halfway difficult game left against LSU before returning to the SECCG. Alabama was one field goal away from beating Tennessee. Georgia’s offense isn’t nearly as good as Tennessee’s. There is a very good chance we all watch Alabama compete for another NC this year.

That just means Tennessee is all he's played and they lost. It took them taking out Texas's star QB to win by 1 and a no call to end the game to beat an awful A&M team. No matter the SECCG outcome he still has to beat the 2nd best team in the nation which is very unlikely with no defense.
