I live in BIG12 country like all the Aggies. The talk here is that the BIG12 is in no hurry to get to 12 much less 14 or 16. The way they seam to be looking at things is the new deal with the SEC VS. BIG12 bowl makes there conference legit. They know that whatever the money deal for this bowl is going to be they will only have to split it between 10 teams vs. our 14.

I'm not real happy with this bowl deal. I like the concept but not with the BIG12. They are still very disfunctional with Dodds from UT really running the whole show there.

????? Why in the hell would we want UNC ????????

I don't see how any intelligent SEC fan would prefer NC State over UNC. NC State has mediocre athletics and academics, and AT BEST will be the 2nd or 3rd most popular brand in the state of North Carolina.

UNC is the prize and Slive knows it. NC State might be the little brother that tags along behind them though.

I've been saying UNC and VT are the SEC endgame for a year now. This could not be less of a surprise

If UNC and VaTech are then end game targets then I gotta think that the SEC Network will share the same model as the Big10 Network.

Only make much more money....

Right. That's always been the assumption. Mizzou was a coup with the St. Louis market and A&M an even bigger get. If we get UNC (with the two huge markets in that state) and VT (breaking into D.C.) we may be able to keep level with the B1G... at least until they get Rutgers/St. Johns/other NY school

I believe everyone would prefer UNC over NCState, no question. That said, it has been widely assumed - maybe incorrectly - that there was too many roadblocks to getting UNC (ties with Duke, academics, commitment to football, etc).

All that said, I would be VERY VERY surprised to see the SEC make any moves anytime soon. I truly believe the SEC is going to sit back and wait til some of the smoke clears before going to 16...I don't believe the SEC is in a huge rush to jump to 16 right now. Will it eventually? Sure, and it's inevitable that it's going to be in the Virginia and/or North Carolina markets, but I don't think the SEC is going to "fire the first shots" on this round of expansion.

IMO, the SEC's focus right now is on integrating A&M/Mizzou and working out all the details of the SEC Network launch. The SEC will keep it's "wild card" (2 additional chairs at the table) in its back pocket for now with the intention of using it down the road sometime to leverage another "look in" or SEC network expansion.

Surely Slive will ask UNC/UVA first. Then have VT/NC State as backups.Any combo of a VA or NC school will be great.

Also VT/State there is nothing wrong with being the SEC's second choice. Thanks FSU.

Jumping in late here.

But UNC is probably the only school we could add to the SEC, that I'd be 100% supportive of.

I may be wrong, but a small part of me is also beginning to think that all of this "FSU/Clemson/ND to the Big12" talk is smoke being leaked from Big12 fronts to make the Big12 appear more stable/attractive.

If that's the case, this whole discussion has become a PR front for the Big12.

Slive and the SEC want flagship schools that add prestige and brand value, not just good football schools. UNC is significantly more valuable than NC State from any metric you look at - academics, athletics, brand value. More people will watch a UNC game than an NC State game (any sport), and more people in the state of North Carolina will watch the SEC if UNC is a member than if NC State is.

Given that the SEC likely only has two more spots available on the bus (to get up to 16), I don't think the conference will fill those spots unless the fit is perfect. UNC is obvious and has to be a top choice. NC State doesn't move the needle enough though.

While I agree with almost everything you said, the catch is that if we can get a TV network deal like the B1G has then it doesn't matter in terms of TV revenue what school in the state we get. It gives us the same money from that source, which is the largest source of revenue for the SEC

Agree it doesn't matter in terms of pure revenue dollars what specific school is driving the eyeballs, but the specific school does matter in terms of content for the network (attractive content gets ratings, and high ratings will get the SEC more money from advertisers, cable companies, etc).

SEC already dominates eyeballs in football season, but the SEC Network is intended to dominate eyeballs the entire year by pushing our brand value in basketball, baseball, softball, etc.

The football season really only lasts from August to December, but the network will air 12 months out of the year. Adding a school like UNC, with very good all-around sports, will provide valuable SEC Network content for the winter, spring, and summer.

interesting though lots of VT fans on their board are talking about wanting the B1G claiming their fan base and school is more than just a SWVA rural school also some saying they belong in the ACC

If the SEC gets UNC/NC St and UVA/VT, they should move Mizzou to the West.
