In what way is that comment pursuant to any of the points outlined herein?

These aren't the exact stats I was looking for, but Bama and UGA are #1 and #2 in revenue.

UGA is #1 in conference in profit, #2 in the nation behind Texas.

Interesting enough, and an aside, Vanderbilt has more football revenue than Ole Miss.

This article is from 2011.... Forbes magazine.

Did you read ALL the article, including the comments?

Kristi, using the EIA data for program to program comparisons it does not yield an apples to apples comparison.

While their are general guidelines for categorizing revenues and expenses there are wide, wide differences in how those revenues and expenses get reported. If you are familiar with the EIA tool, then you should see a category labeled “Non-Allocated…” expenses and revenues. Within that category UGA only reports $2.16M of revenue, that is the lowest reporting in that category in the SEC. By comparison the University of Alabama reports $40.1M of revenue. What are the chances that some portion of that $40 million was generated through football in some form or fashion???

My alma mater, UK reports $29.2M of non-allocated expenses. What I know is that donations required for football and basketball seating at UK are not considered football or basketball revenue for EIA purposes…however they are at UGA.

Likewise, all expense reporting is not considered equal. UK does not include debt service on athletic facilities as athletic expenses, thus are completely removed from the EIA data. Other universities do include those expenses. Bottom line is that the EIA data is purposed with showing an institution’s compliance with Title IX and that’s all it is really good at doing.

(My bold)

Short story: Wrong numbers and lousy reporting.

You forget that there used to be a thing called the College Football Association (CFA),which was an affiliation of D1 schools whose specific purpose was to get a fair slice of the money brought about by TV.

Vince Dooley and UGA were leaders in the CFA and founders in the early 80's.

It's socialism, and if Bama and UGA went rogue, it would basically be an Atlas Shrugged scenario. We'd be just fine. Better than fine, we'd both be doing better overall.

Socialism is government ownership over the means of production. If you could please connect the dots between the SEC's voluntarily agreed upon revenue sharing and the governments ownership over the means of protection I'd be very happy.

Being part of the SEC is like being part of a Co Op. there are advantages to its fellow members. ND is a national brand because of the catholicism and the world wide appeal that brings.
