11-1 no gonna knock somebody out of the playoffs like UGA
no
but it could knock out an 11-1 (or 12-1) Pac 12 winner and B1G winner
that is especially true if the Irish win comfortably against USC & USC then gives the Pac 12 champ a really tight game AND if MI State either beats, or comes damned close to beating the eventual B1G champ
lots of ball left to play

You underestimate the power of money. ND has a huge fan base and if they are close they will get in. Simple as that. Which team will bring the most viewers/money.

Maybe because everyone is waiting for UGA to shite the bed in SEC play like they normally do.

Porter I hate to have to tell you this but it is no longer a big deal to play or beat ND anymore. This isn’t 1966 or 1977 or 1988. This is 2017. ND has been irrelevant going on 30 years now. I learned this a long time ago. The last time ND was given the benefit of the doubt they were blown out in a NC game that hindsight tells us they didn’t even deserve to be in and they were undefeated. ND is a relic of a program. Those glory days are long gone. Playing and beating them means very little. ND is like watching Mickey Mantle stumble around in the outfield in 1968.

ND isn’t getting in over a 1 loss conference champion. Doesn’t matter who the loss is to. ND already lost a game. They don’t have any extra data points to mitigate that loss like teams in conferences do. It is pretty simple.
11-1 Notre Dame would include wins over Miami, NC State, USC, and Stanford. All of those teams could end up with 10 win seasons (sans Stanford) at this point. If there only loss was by one point to an 10+ win Georgia, that's pretty good.
Long way to go, but Notre Dame is in a good position.

Ignore history and just watch the games. Notre Dame along with Washington is one of the most underrated teams in the nation right now.

Washington plays in a conference with a conference championship game. They have an extra data point that ND doesn’t have. Clemson lost to Pitt last year. Didn’t stop them from winning the ACC and the NC. A one loss conference champion is always going to be at an advantage over ND in the current format.

You're missing the point. $$$$$ and they will bring lots of it if they get in.

Since LSU is down this year i will be pulling for UGA to make it to the playoff. No real complaints with the fans and the coach. THey may be the only ones capable of beating bama in the sec championship game. go dawgs!

The committee would easily leave a 1 loss Washington or Oklahoma out if Notre Dame went 11-1.
They have a stronger strength of schedule than any Big 12 or Pac 12 team, that is what they look at.
Oklahoma could play in 10 Big 12 championship games, doesn't prove anything.

plus, a 1 loss Penn State is also in serious trouble; especially if Penn State loses (or almost loses) to Mich State
the REAL argument may well be about a 1 loss conference champ or Notre Dame vs an undefeated SD State - Aztecs are this year's true Cinderella...
