And the redneck sister frickers rejoice.

Pretty sad people are so weak minded they need to attend a service to make themselves feel better about their wrongdoings in life.

Nothing like being surrounded by fat bible beating fricks who won't even pass a gambling bill cause the lawd told me it ain't right yall!

What is the point of this?

It's an easy way to score points with a culturally conservative voting base without having to take action on any of the difficult to solve problems that actually affect their lives.

Tennessee governor Bill Haslam signed House Bill 1840 into law last April, which allows licensed counselors and psychologists to turn away LGBT patients that suffer from mental health problems.

I consider myself a conservative, but why would we want people to turned away from mental health treatments?

Relax. The bill allows licensed counselors to turn away clients who engage with a lifestyle which conflicts with religious beliefs, provided that they refer the individual to someone who will treat them.

Got it.

This is a wired tangent you went on, relates in no way to the thread. Congrats on the gambling addiction.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that, among other things, it's designed to protect a counselor that would hold the view that someone who wants to undergo a sex change operation by definition suffers from mental health problems. Counselor shouldn't be forced to accept such a person as a patient.

I would think that someone facing such issues would want to see a counselor that had expertise in that area or at least an interest in helping them deal with their issues. Why would they want to enter into an arrangement otherwise?

The law just seems unnecessary to me, a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I'm not from Tennessee so maybe I am unaware, are there a number of these cases in the state where such a law needs to exist?

I could care less about the bill, I just think it's stupid to punish schools from playing that have absolutely nothing to do with that bill.

That's like having a state rep make a comment about something and then all the in state Universities get a penalty. You don't have to agree with me but I bring logic and perfect sense to this topic.

True, but you would also think nobody would want to eat a cake baked by someone who was coerced into it.

The entire thing of punishing University sports because of what one person in Gov't did is stupid.

The Universities have nothing to do with it. This is the PC crowd gone stupid. I remember Miss State was rejected from playing basketball for the Coaches vs Cancer because the Ncaa didn't like a flag at our state capital. Again, who got punished here? The coaches, the players and everyone else who had nothing to do with it. Does that make any sense? Of course not.

Your state has a speed limit of 65, we think 75 is more like it. Therefore all of your state Universities are disqualified from playing in a bowl game. Yeah, that makes sense.

I guess it might help to take your own advice.

My guess is that the poster who called Tennessee and other Southern states welfare states was referring to numbers on the amount of federal taxes paid out by a state compared to the amount in federal taxes the state receives. In most cases, Southern states benefit from an inward flow of federal tax money, while states like New York (and to a smaller degree California) pay more to the federal government than they receive in return.
