Uab football was a shambling corpse, bill clark was out of there the second a better job presented itself and even the tiny glimmer of life they were showing would be gone again. Now uab can spend the money it was flushing down the toilet on a football team nobody cared about till it was gone (although plenty of crocodile tears now) on building new research facilities, curing diseases, etc etc.

You know, what gets lost in this conversation is that UAB's first season was in 1991. Tweny-three years of playing football and they still couldn't develop a fanbase of any substance in Birmingham....

Only because UAT forced shitty hires, blocked them from hiring good coaches, blocked them getting out of legion field, etc.

UATs BOT and Bryant Jr actively working hard to frick Uab for 23 years is sad. You are right about that.

worst part is when they come with the no confidence vote they still have to get the BOT to act to fire him. right now they fully expect the BOT to back him and at best he will shortly thereafter quietly resign. not all are convinced he will. the no confidence vote is a foregone conclusion at this point.

think of how far pasture technology could be advanced, or the animal husbandry arts, if auburn didn't have to blow so much money paying fired coaching staffs for a perrenial also ran afterthought program. Its for the best really

How did they ever allow they to start the program?

Maybe.....but again I pose the question, why would the BOT want to build a another first class program that would would compete for resources with this cash cow juggernaut in Tuscaloosa? Why would that make any sense? I suspose you are correct insofar in that they could have got serious about it and invested in it.....but they are not going to frick around with the golden goose. I don't know why this is so difficult for people to understand.

the ability for people to ignore this fact pisses me off almost as bad as the drain on the UA system fund fallacy. these idiots dont realiz they are talking this shite about an institution directly responsible for 30% of the state GDP! let that fact sink in. they contribute roughly 70% of that fund matt says they are a drain on. its absolutely moronic. $4.6 billion total economic impact with $302.2 million generated state tax dollars annually.
UAB economic impact

waiting for the economic masterminds who are 3 months late on their trailer payment to retort with such hard facts as "but Bama is the king cash cow" in 3...2....1...

the connection is if anybody is troubled and thus interested in the reasons why UAB dropped football, they might want to investigate it.

Investigate for what? Where is there an NCAA bylaw that says Alabama has to fund a college football program at a sister school. LMAO I would love to see that rule.

Same here.

It is sorta like if the state legislature had said Bama can't hire Saban in 2007 and must hire Joe Kines and go back to playing at legion field for the next decade.

Would have a big economic impact on Bama football and doubt they would sell out legion field in its current state.

Sorta what the did tp Uab.

to the contrary I thought it was a great game. I have watched the replay several times. total scoring record, NM got his passing record, the game went back & forth until late and the better team ultimately won. overall its another classic battle to me.

I see the logic there, but maybe it is time that UAB and Alabama have outgrown the umbrella of one BoT?
At close to 20,000 students, I think representation on the board needs to be more reflective or it is time for an amicable break.

LINK

heres a good interview that pretty much sums up Bama's position on the entire situation before it ever started. has to make you wonder...if Bama obviously was opposed to it then how DID UAB ever get it pushed through to begin with? a hint is in that economic impact report linked above. so what makes you think push comes to shove they cant play ball again? whistle on past the graveyard bams but if they swing that bankwalker hard enough and break away from the UA system entirely the above offical documents suggest it would be the might tide suffering the financial difficulties.
