Jay just said that Muschamp would leave for Auburn right now

I doubt it very seriously. He's already guaranteed to succeed Mack Brown when Mack retires from coaching at the end of next season to be UT's new AD. He loves Austin and Texas has arguably the best facilities in the country. Being the head coach at UT is one of the top 5 college football coaching gigs...plus he wouldn't have to compete with his old boss for recruits.

What makes you think Mack retires after only one more season? I think he will be coaching in Austin for possibly another 4-5 years.

That being said, I don't see Muschamp coming back to AU, or going anyhere for that matter, because his family is settled there and they seem to like it.

I for one hope Tubbs is out for two reasons:

1.) Tubbs is a great coach and I think AU would be making a mistake

2.) If true, we could hopefully pursue Rhoads as our DC

Isn't Rhoads being pursued by Utah State as head coach? At least, I think I heard that somewhere.

If not, Miles practically owes him a job for stopping West Virginia last year.

Nah i don't watn Tubbs. He would be a step above Croom but he is nearly has hard headed when it comes to the staff. Plus he needs to drop his duck hunting trips.

You've beaten him three years in a row and two of those years were absolute blowouts...

2007 uga-au wasnt a blow out. game was close until late. i just think tubs is a good coach, especially for a school like au that is traditionally 2nd fiddle in its state and has to recruit heavily in another state. (no swipe meant. au's lifetime record vs. uga speaks for itself).

Because our current AD, Deloss Dodds, is stepping down at the end of 2009. I live in Austin and word on the street is that Mack will take over as AD when Dodds retires. I don't claim to have any inside info, I'm just repeating what I've heard. The recent article in the Statesman about Muschamp being groomed as the head coach in waiting also alluded to the fact that next season might be Mack's last one as head coach.

Yet, Mack Brown himself said that this was not to be taken as the twilight of his career. He has 8 yrs remaining on his contract, & I doubt that the AD job would pay him anywhere near what he makes as the HC.

Maybe so. I have no idea what Dodds' salary is, but I don't think the money is really a factor in Mack's decision. A lot may have to do with how well Texas does next year. Be that as it may, I don't think that Muschamp is leaving Austin anytime soon.
