False, we lost a JC safety but besides that Mack was always going to UT. Latest rumor today even has Mack visiting LSU later this month anyways. Phillips said chavis leaving doesn't matter. We actually will be getting an even better DC for cheaper who actually recruits. Good luck recruiting with chavis. Ask UTenn how much chavis likes to recruit

You did not take Nick Saban. You took Chavis. In case you forgot Tennessee fired Chavis's arse 5 years ago.
But go ahead and celebrate little brother Aggies. You earned it! King of moral victories.

If we were happy with Chavis we would've actually tried to keep him.

True.
Like I said in a previous post, this is a perception problem for LSU. it will hurt lsu's recruiting vs TAMU when they go head to head on defense recruits. Especially the guys in Texas that lsu has been able to steal from TAMU in the past.

Don't ya think LSU would've come up with a few hundred K if they REALLY REALLY thought losing Chavis would be some sort of a program destroyer; especially considering how bad our offense is? Chavis is good, LSU gave him all the talent in the world to work with on defense, I say LSU "gave him" because we all know Chavis doesn't recruit but LSU wasn't going to be bullied into paying him more than they were offering him. They realized his worth & figure they can get someone just as good, probably better at devising schemes to apply pressure & stop late game winning drives, for what they want to pay a DC.
And since you are so concerned about nut punches, just realize that LSU will continue to nut punch aTm, this time , Chavis will be on the receiving end.

Does this mean the little brother Aggies will stop bragging about beating a 2-9 LSU team 25 years ago? Now they will brag about taking an over the hill old coach for the next 20 years who did less with the most talent on defense in the SEC.

Any reasonable LSU fan will agree with this. It looks bad, but as long as we make a good DC hire I don't think it will be a big deal outside of this year and maybe next.

quote:If I understand the issues correctly, the sticking point was not money, it was job security. If CLM retired/was hired elsewhere he wanted a guarantee that he would be retained as the DC (similar to his situation at UT). He was told no, that decision would be made by any incoming HC. So he took the money and walked. A simple business decision.
But you did
From my perspective, this makes me believe CLM will be leaving sooner rather than later (through retirement). The guy is a smart DC overall, a non-existent recruiter, and a horrible two minute/slim lead guy. Enjoy your hire.

We aren't really that upset

Has A&M figured out that their head coach is a loser?

How old is Les? I didn't think he was anywhere near old enough to consider retirement

Hey if you can't beat em'
steal their coach.
2014 - 23-17 LOSS
2013 - 34-10 LOSS
2012 - 24-19 LOSS
2010 - 41-24 LOSS
Take Chavis, LSU just gave you a handicap

They man loves recruiting (his greatest strength) and coaching kids but I personally think he realizes he is not an elite coach (nothing to back it up - just an opinion). He is not driven to win like CNS, period. I think he is closer to retirement than we all realize and Chavis knows it. He does not want to get caught in the revolving door that happened at UT. Again, just my opinion. Bottom line, when you give him a lot of talent and depth (the LSU model for winning), Chavis is a solid coach. He knows SEC offenses and how to match up against them. But I would not consider him elite. He is not a schemer that will knock your socks off with something exotic. He just beats you because his players are (generally) better and he has more depth.

1. Les Miles will hire a good DC.
2. One thing you can bet on: A&M has not beaten LSU in football this century and that will not change in November in Baton Rouge.
