If colleges would agree to direct standardized compensation to athletes as employees and collectives stop upping the ante for NIL funding for desperate coaches like Ryan Day we might be able to enjoy football in the future. Might, operative word.

College football as most of us grew up with is basically dead.

Young guys might like the new college football. It’s a mess in my opinion.

We should return to the old way of paying them under the table. Nick Saban might even come out of retirement.

That's technically pay for play.

Interesting to see what happens to the NCAA going forward.

Now I see why they said he was aggressive with NIL, which got Rhule to Nebraska

Which is what the SEC/B10 are angling for. The fact AD’s are publicly planning for it is a pretty good indicator as to when it will happen.

He's predicting how he thinks things will end up shaking out nation-wide with all the pending litigation, not saying they are definitely going to pay them X amount of money. He thinks colleges will be forced to share revenue like pro sports leagues do and estimating how much that will end up being annually

You are right but even those days are better than what is going on right now.

It has been a disaster.

The onus of paying the kids needs to be put on the school, and get the boosters out of it. The association can determine what is a fair wage and all of that.

CBA has approx 50-50 split. That seems like a realistic starting point, but unlimited free agency would have to end. Then you’d have NIL offers from boosters to sweeten the pot.

If it gets to the point of unions and revenue sharing, college athletes will be contract employees and won't be able to leave if their contract says otherwise. Likewise, college athletes won't still enjoy all the amenities they currently do. They only do now because if the ridiculous surplus of money major conference school have right now to allocate in their yearly budgets. I also wonder if the coaching salary bubble bursts as well. There's a whole lot of things schools can do financially now they simply won't be able to afford in the future. I also think a lot of school will cease being D1 schools because they barely operate in the black not sharing revenue. If they're forced to share revenue, I imagine many schools will have to make major cuts to their athletic departments and eliminate a bunch of D1 sports, if not all of them. It's honestly sad for the thousands of athletes who will be adversely affected by all of this and will have no other avenue to go to school

Then they would be guilty of anti-trust violations.

Why not both? If I want to give you money I bet you would take it. Why can't players?

Most college coaches make the big bucks because of their ability to recruit, not their X’s and O’s wizardry. If NIL (or whatever) causes the best players to pretty much just start going to the highest bidder, then a big part of the reason coaches are making eight figures will be nullified.

The number of coaches who can recruit a top five roster is slim. However, the number of coaches who can take a top five roster and beat the shite out of everyone is fairly large.

There are plenty of Larry Coker types out there who can win if someone else brings in the players. So yes, it could affect coaching salaries.
