For Auburn personally it probably is A&M in 14. Gus still hasn't recovered from that loss.

That we impacted - Miami. They've pretty much flailed around since.

That impacted us - I think you have to go back to '08. At some point in that int filled season Les cemented his football philosophy as one that would not take risks on offense.

So I don't think it was 1/9. Our 3 seasons afterwards were very similar to the three before.

Yeah, that peach bowl vs miami was pretty awesome. We kicked their asses like they hadn't been kicked in a long time. They really hasn't been the same since we beat the shite out of them have they? Plus, dwayne bowe beat the shite out of a couple of miami players on the way to the locker room after the game lol.

This isn't about the other team winning. It's about what a loss did to a program long term.

It isn't as obvious, but A&M's win over Kansas State in the 1998 Big 12 championship is something their program has never recovered from.

They may have won a Big 12 title or two since then, but they were the #1 team in the nation and only had to hold on to a 15-point 4th quarter lead to lock in their spot in the first BCS title game. They went on to lose to Purdue and Drew Brees in the Alamo Bowl.

As a result of that game, the Big 12 had to amend their bylaws to state that the lowest that the Big 12 championship game loser could fall was the Cotton Bowl (Alamo Bowl was 4th choice back then).

2007 ULM loss.

It was the loss Saban needed to galvanize the team, AD, and staff around his vision as he purged or marginalized all of those who wouldn't buy-in from that point on. '07 was a wash, but a necessary evil to reach rock bottom for a program that needed to be razed and rebuilt.

ULM was rock bottom and a springboard to where the program is now.

That K State loss also saved the BCS's bacon. Had they won, I think there was going to be 3 undefeated teams and since it was the innaguaral year of the BCS that ensuing controversy would have been a major black eye.

Heck, it could have ended the BCS all that much sooner.

If you're going to make that argument, you can't leave out Miami over UCLA that year as well.

In one night, we went from 3 unbeaten teams to 1.

UGA losing to Bama in the 2012 SEC Championship cost the dawgs a national title and Rark Micht would likely still be the coach. Would have dented the Tide's legacy but overall probably wouldn't have changed college football a ton.

44-3. Miami destroyed LSU

This remains one of the most baffling results in LSU football history, given the fact LSU had won 5 games in row and had already clinched a tie for the SEC Championship.

The Tigers never competed at any time during the game and fell behind 20-0 after only a few minutes of play. I know Miami was good, but were they really THAT much better than LSU?

The 21-0 game started the major push for the creation of a playoff system

I would say the shite show in 2004 was the major push. Everyone saw the fraud Chokelahoma was that year, and how they had royally fricked up by not matching Auburn and USC.

It actually started the year before, when after the fiasco in which Oklahoma was #3 in both the AP and Coaches Polls but #1 in the computer polls, which put them as #1 in the BCS, the AP poll took themselves out of the BCS poll. USC was #1 in both the AP and Coaches but ended up 3rd in the BCS due to the computer polls.
