Certain fanbases watching the world atomic clock for the day that they can say LSU only won 2 nattys in the last 20 years.

Don't know how they come up with that when LSU has titles in 2003, 2007 and 2019.

repeating this lie wont make it reality. Auburn won the national Championship in 2004

Did they will the AP or BCS title?

Found the thread that seems to keep all the fine aggie posters away. I wonder why?

No objective measure puts Auburn over Clemson.

I mean I do agree… but one must wonder what Clemson’s resume would be the past 20 seasons had they played the SEC West +UGA every year rather than the embarrassingly weak ACC slate they play every season.

Would they have won their 2 national titles? Doubtful.

It’s one thing to struggle against Georgia and LSU. It’s another thing to struggle with Syracuse.

We’ll never know the answer, but my guess is that if Clemson had played Auburn’s exact schedule the past 20 years, there is almost zero chance they’d have a National Championship and two #2 finishes as Auburn has during the same time period.

At the same time they’ve proven that at their best, they can line up with any program. At one point they were the only program that would give Alabama a consistent run for their money. They probably handed Alabama their biggest loss in the last 15 seasons.

Hypotheticals can only go so far. Clemson won some very big games when it mattered. Including destroying Ohio State and Oklahoma in the CFP and beating Alabama twice. Would they have same success in SEC ? Probably not. But it doesn’t matter.

Looked it up for curiosity’s sake….

Wins against Final AP Top 10 opponents the last 20 years:
Auburn- 16
Clemson- 9

Overall Auburn is 16-41 (28.1%) against Top 10 opponents. Clemson is 9-21 (30.0%). Very close in terms of winning percentage but the fact Auburn has played 27 more games against Top 10 opponents compared to Clemson the last 2 decades is astounding.

Imagine if they played an even decently tough schedule.

Only Alabama (22), Ohio St (19), and LSU (18) have more wins against Top 10 opponents the last 20 seasons.

Clemson beat Bama in 2016 and 2018.
Auburn beat Bama in 2013, 2017, and 2019. Took them to 4OT in 2021.

I’m failing to see where Clemson performed better against Bama during that stretch.

The part where they won 2 national titles in 3 years as opposed to Auburn winning 1 national title in the last 60 years

This is as fair as possible

You could argue swapping LSU & UGA and OSU & Clemson; but this looks pretty spot on to me

Spot on. LSU with 3 natty's from 3 different HCs in 20 years is almost as impressive as Alabama's 6...2 of those coaches ain't what most people would call great coaches. Its impressive to win nattys with new coordinators but winning them with new coaches is infinitely more difficult. UGAs troubles with Nick Saban are well documented and have cost the dawgs terribly but it could be argued that given LSUs 3 nattys with 3 coaches their issues against Alabama have been more detrimental than UGAs. Saban has broken UGAs heart, it is pretty amazing he aint broke LSUs spirit...

AU's lows over the past two decades outweigh the highs too much to be considered anything higher than honorable mention

only AU and UF have had 4 seasons of 7 or more losses over the last 20 years, but the Gators have more double-digit winning seasons in that span

I would've put UGA #2, LSU #3, and Florida #6.

Delusional by stating facts like number of big wins, etc? Sorry you don’t like facts.

I am not sure if nattys should have that outsized a role in the calculations. It is hard to rank LSU over Ohio State given LSU's pretty steep dropoffs through the last few decades.

It's MUCH harder to win a national championship coming out of the SEC than it is to string a bunch of winning seasons together in the Big 10.

LSU is a much better program than OSU over this time frame.

Plus, those two teams met on the field once and settled that definitively.

Looks like you put a lot of thought into the list and it is appreciated. it would be hard to argue against anything mentioned, although I have no doubt some will.
