The sub rules/quick play is to wear a team/players out on the other side of the field. That is pretty much the same philosophy as every "old school" coach as well. Couldnt you equally say that the teams subing guys on D every play are taking advantage of substitution rules and tricks and mismatches. "We will follow the rules of the game, but frick the spirit of the rules in their fat fricking face."

Don't kid yourself, he never held back. He's a smug jackass.

Took that 36-0 beating and left.

Yes, he really did. But I'm sure you've watched a lot more Auburn football than the AU fans here.

I do agree with that.

He probably analyzes shite too much and when things fall out of his "scripted" play calling he is looks lost in the wilderness.

I don't know how many times I've seen Gus' team start a game on offense and look dynamic the first few series in the 1st & 3rd qtr. Then as the game progresses and defenses start to adjust the play calling gets sketchy and starts sputtering.

Not sure I've ever read such an apt and concise analysis of Gus. Very well done

Strictly my observation.

Gus has to learn to get out of his own head, let go of his stubbornness and stop trying to force shite. He better learn to adjust and evolve his scheme & philosophy and use the talent he's been able to pull in or he'll be toast.

He doesn't need to do a complete overhaul, just change things up and stop being so damn stubborn. If he can see fit to keep not only his job but keep a DC for more than a year or two I think the defense will gel and start carrying their load of the work. That alone will take some of the pressure off the QB & offense. JMO.

Oh, he was a smug jackass of the first order. But I've watched a lot of Auburn football and I'm not kidding anyone, Tubs held back in several games that I watched in time at AU.

That was the Tubershell Offense. Get up by 7 points, run it up the middle and punt.

I am pretty sure he means, that Tubs caused the hire of Saban

Yep. With a combination of being us and shite talking, Bama boosters were ready to pay whatever to get an elite coach again..

Most of the time Tubs was cool as a cucumber on the sideline - Gus looks anxious, nervous and sometimes frantic.

Thank you for that. I ended up learning something, how cool.

Yep - old school and when you had a defense you could trust to hold their water you could do that and get a lot of wins.

The offenses today are prone to blow by you and score in a flash. You have to field an offense that can hang with those flashy offenses - if you can couple that with a killer defense then you are in contention for championships most every year.

What Tommy Tuberville did at Ole Miss, in keeping that program afloat while under devastating NCAA sanctions and playing one of those seasons with 57 scholarship players, is a better coaching job than anything he did at auburn or the rest of his career.

+1 Tubs was a solid coach in the SEC, he knew how to run a damn program and he knew how to get the most from his players. That 2010 Auburn team was full of Tubs guys, they were fundamentally sound and knew how to play ball - Chizik deserves credit for keeping them focused during the Cam Newton fiasco too.

For goodness sakes can LSU fans have one conversation and not bring Saban or Bama into it. This is a Tuberville topic. The obsession is awful.

At the same point as Gustav in his career as an HC, Tubs was 25-20 (12-20 in SEC play), and AU was being ridiculed for hiring him.

Gustav won a conference championship in each of his first two seasons as an HC (Sun Belt in '12, SEC in '13). Took Tubs ten years to get his first league title, and in 21 seasons as an HC he still has only 2.

Tell ya what, if Malzahn falls flat on his face this year or next and gets the axe at AU, then you can make this thread. Until then, post less.
