One thing Derek did right was the overseeing of the training facility. Too bad he forgot he had a football team to coach.

All that stands in their way...is Nick Saban. Hope they haven't up a hit out on him.

I know everyone says there is not a lot of talent instate TN, but I wonder how much can be attributed to lack of support for the youth and middle school football leagues.
The states that produce the most talent have fantastic youth programs. That aspect seems to be lacking in TN.

This is not the case in my hometown.
However, the ceiling for the best athletes from where I went to school are places like the University of the Cumberlands or Carson-Newman. (May or may not have something to do with the population being 95% white )
Although, we did have a kid receive an offer from A&M about 7-8 years ago, but he never went.

State of Tennessee has surpassed Alabama.
Uhhh, no. Bama's top 3 are rated way higher than Tennessee's. 7, 40, and 69, compared to 52, 68, and 85. So another way you could word it would be to say that Bama has two in the top 50, while Tennessee has zero.
Combine that with the fact that Rivals still ranks 30 players in Alabama and only 20 in Tennessee. And from their top 100, Alabama has six...#5, 22, 57, 59, 75, and 95. Tennessee only has five, and lower ranked at 21, 30, 36, 66, and 100.

Tenn. has come a long way with upgrades. They even have indoor plumbing in a couple buildings. Of course, only the out of staters know how to use it.

In all fairness I do believe that UT may have hired the right person finally. UT has hit the recruiting trail hard and heavy....they are at least getting second looks from a lot of top talent and will steal a few.
The state of Tennessee doesn't produce much talent in the high schools and either does Bama really...the hotbeds are Missisippi, Georgia, Florida, South & North Carolina and even some from Virginia. Fullmer got a lot of good players from SC.
UT traditionally has recruited Ohio, Pa. plus California for players. It has the facilities ($$) to compete with anyone.
I really think there is going to be a complete power shift in the SEC and the east will dominate again and order will be restored.

Tennessee is going to be fine. Everything goes in cycles and the Vols look like they are on the way back. Should be fun to watch. The East is packed.
this.
tenn IS a sleeping giant. no problem recruiting in the past, should not be an issue going forward.

Anyone that posts anything about recruiting and then sites ESPN should be disregarded immediately. The best is 24/7 by a long shot. However a composite of Rivals, 24/7, and Scout would work also I guess.

Sounds like Verne and Gary on Saturday. I don't disagree that UT will be back but I don't know why they couldn't call a spade a spade and acknowledge that that was the worst beatdown we've had in this series in years. Oh but look Tennessee is trying soooo hard.
i mean when you start the game with your second string true freshman quarterback, generally that doesn't bode well on the road against the #1 team in the country. just saying. i think it's ignorant to deny that butch jones appears to have tennessee moving in the right direction now. it's not like they were going to be good overnight after all that's happened in knoxville since fulmer's exit. it's not like we're talking about a program that has never been good. tennessee is second to only alabama historically in the SEC

UT has fans, tradition, facilities... But recruiting has changed in a major way and that is going to.be the toughest part of UT getting out of their funk. Not having a large natural base to pull from is pushing UT in a Nebraska type of direction.
UGA, LSU, Auburn, Clemson, Ole Miss, SC, UA, and LSU have all recruit competively everywhere UT recruits and that was not the case during the Fuller days
i don't disagree with that, but if tennessee can start to improve, they still have strong ties in north alabama, georgia, and south carolina. recruiting hasn't changed so much since they had a top 10 class in 2010 to where it's inconceivable they'd be able to recruit nationally again. They seem to be doing very well thus far as is

it's getting better. born and raised in tennessee and it's easy to see how much better the football talent has gotten in the past 5-10 years. what ensworth in nashville has been doing is ridiculous. school has only been around like 5-6 years and have built a juggernaut because they're able to recruit as a private school, have a great coaching staff, and i've heard rumors they're about to become a boarding school as well, much like mccallie in chattanooga. all the top private schools are recruiting now, so these inner city kids are finally getting good coaching and thus are starting to change the culture of tennessee high school football.

UT has always had to recruit out of state. We have always been fairly good at it, and it is also one of the reasons why we have the largest recuiting budget in the SEC
Posted on 10/31/13 at 7:07 pm to Crompdaddy8
Years ago no one recruited Virginia much from the SEC and now that state is producing a lot of talent...especially in the Tidewater area.

If they do come back and become good again....Bama will get the permanent opponent rescinded
