Shaq says he is not steering his son to any particular school, but wants his son to play for a coach that will teach him next level stuff."

"I would like my son to play for a coach that's going to teach him next-level stuff," O'Neal said on Monday's edition of "The Big Podcast With Shaq." "I have three in mind: Johnny Jones, LSU, because I know him personally, Calipari and the coach from Michigan State ... Tom Izzo. I've told my son many times, it's your decision and it is [his] decision. ... I need somebody that's gonna curse him out, treat him like a man. Those three guys are the ones I would like him to play for."

I'm surprised he didn't mention Coach K. But he might not have the test scores to get into Duke.

He isnt. Shaq was a huge backer of Jones and one of the reasons he is here actually

Belle and Mike had me convinced the 5 stars go to UK because they bleed blue. I'm disappointed to learn they get great players because of a coach.

Go to Kentucky as the number 2 player in the country, leave as the 28th pick of the NBA draft. #coachcalgetsthemready

But can he (or anyone, really) look at Jones' career and determine that he's the best coach for his son? Honestly, the only coach in the conference worse than him might be Ben Howland.

It's happening

I kid He is just playing nicely with us and you can't blame him. I hope his son goes to State because I can't stand UK or Duke.

There is a reason Shaq thought so highly of him..... I disagree, but it is no denying Shaq thinks highly of Jones

Jones is a great person and role model.

Shaq probably cares more about that tbh.

Eta: obviously a terrible fricking coach though

Sure, players go to play for specific coaches.

But you're an idiot if you think it doesn't help when a specific coach is at a blue blood program with all the amenities that come with that.

That doesn't mean he still feels the same way and if he does then he is being foolish.

If I had a son that was a top recruit and I was already rich as frick it'd be:

1. Duke
2. Duke
3. Duke
4. Izzo
5. UK

Incredible academics, incredible coach, incredible program, lots of 3/4 year players.

If I was broke and needed my kid to be drafted high it'd be:

1. UK
2. Duke
3. Kansas
4. MSU
5. UNC

I missed where Shaq even mentioned the state of Kentucky in his comments, much less the outstanding amenities at UK.

Was nice of Shaq to include us, but it's like that white lie you tell your wife to not hurt her feelings.
