In hard drought what is the worst multiplier you have seen to the original numbers you quoted? Just curious if folks try to help or just try to gouge in extreme weather?

In the hard drought here a few years ago we bought hay from guys who were shipping it in from up north. Paid around $75 a roll plus a flat delivery charge.

Also did not buy as much and fed more cubes and syrup

Up in Oklahoma. Feed stores take shipments of alfalfa from farther around Montana. Still do

Many Texans speak basic Spanish, gabacho.

Just curious ... what's your fixation with labeling universities as being "little brother" to your university?
Is that something y'all talk about on the LSU campus?
I only ask, b/c--even among the heaps of foolish threads on this site--this topic seems to be one that makes several of you kids giggle with glee.
And it's not something I'd seen before coming to the SEC.

Jeez how many cattle are you talking about? Cuz 75 bucks a roll is pretty damn good price for most people even in non-drought times. You talking a mega-ranch?

That is why I was asking. I am gonna guess the market in non drought would be closer to double if we are talking ETN and EKY (especially if it is shipped and not local). In drought in that area it can skyrocket. Seems like in the mid 80's CKY experienced a terrible drought and prices were through the roof.

What does that translate into acres per animal to graze?

They are on right about 1,800 acres of my grandpas land. It could support more cattle

That's definitely more quantity than anyone around here would buy for cattle. Although we still have some who raise cattle in my area, people here buy mostly for horses and prices can be more random - if you know the guy it can cheap as hell but if not it gets a lot more expensive.
