As I understand the award, the Heisman is supposed to be awarded to the best player in college football, and part of being the "Best" is character and integrity. From that standpoint, they haven't lived up to their own values with some of the winners in past years. It's kind of a joke now - the media picks the winner, and deserving candidates from schools that aren't as high-profile get ignored. Like the Lynch kid from Northern Illinois.

What Winston may have done has no affect on my opinions about Manziel. But if I'm following what the award says it's really about, I probably wouldn't vote for either of them should allegations against Winston prove to have merit.

I can see the tagling for AJ's Heisman campaign now:

"Would you rather vote for a QB who's probably not a rapist... or a QB who's definitely not a rapist? AJ for Heisman!"

My only issue with JFF was on the field, whereas Winston's issues are unproven and off the field. Advantage Winston for me.

I have a different understanding.

quote:

The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.

Performance exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. To me, that nothing to do with off the field stuff.

Winners = great ability, diligence, perseverance, hard work.

Nothing in there can be reasonably construed to make any off-the-field behavior relevant. It's a performance award, not a model citizen award.

Well that's definitely a new one. The field is where JFF outshines all other candidates.

Are you really trying to say jordan lynch deserved to win the heisman over manziel last year, or that he is more deserving this year?

Remember when Manti Te'o was a Heisman finalist?

God almighty TAMU fans are going to replace Auburn fans as the most insecure fanbase in the SEC.

I'll be the first to admit, JFF has held it together this season. He has cut ties with social media, and seems to be adjusted to the spotlight.

I didn't think he'd right the ship, but he has, and has actually improved his play. I didn't think he would. He'd definitely be in my top 3. I don't know who I'd vote for at this point though.

AU fans pale in comparison to UA fans considering their recent success. My "Is bama's defense overrated" thread is a prime example. That damned thing went for 20 pages.

Yeah because it's dumb. We had an API fan on here start a thread asking Bama fans what they thought of API? I mean how pathetic is that

I just don't understand why people are so upset that he took money for his signature, as if it were some inherent moral evil.

With all the athletes that have raped, murdered, dealt hardcore drugs, committed fraud, abused their wives, driven drunk and been general pieces of shite, I've genuinely been shocked at how much people have lashed out at Manziel.

Only your drama queens that didn't want to face JFF this season were on that bandwagon. The other group just didn't like his off the field antics.

He's cleaned that up, so there's no reason to hate on him. Everyone gets to live and learn, or at least they should be afforded that luxury.
