2010. The East Champion was 5-3 in the conference, and only 2 teams finished with a winning conference record. One team finished the year ranked, South Carolina at #22
East Champion conference record by year:
1992 - Florida - 6-2
1993 - Florida - 7-1
1994 - Florida - 7-1
1995 - Florida - 8-0
1996 - Florida - 7-1
1997 - Tennessee - 7-1
1998 - Tennessee - 8-0
1999 - Florida - 7-1
2000 - Florida - 7-1
2001 - Tennessee - 7-1
2002 - Georgia - 7-1
2003 - Georgia - 6-2
2004 - Tennessee - 7-1
2005 - Georgia - 6-2
2006 - Florida - 7-1
2007 - Tennessee - 6-2
2008 - Florida - 7-1
2009 - Florida - 8-0
2010 - South Carolina - 5-3
2011 - Georgia - 7-1
2012 - Florida - 7-1
2013 - Missouri - 7-1
2014 - Missouri - 7-1
2015 - Florida - 7-1
So, the records in conference haven't changed much since then...but the East hasn't won a conference championship since 2008, which corresponds with how long the division has been down. The East was already down 2 years before SC won it.

madmaxvol,
time for real honesty. Do you really believe Tennessee is going to win the East this year?

Butch is in year 4 and hasn't even won the east yet. His window is closing
We were in a pretty deep hole when Coach Jones arrived but you make a good point.
We dropped 4 games where we had double digit leads last year.
Coach Jones promptly dropped the DC. I don't think he had to be prompted to do so.
So we'll see how it goes this year. The one big rap on Coach Jones is how he actually calls the game, or has it called.

I think we handle both UF and UGA without too much trouble.
Get past Bammer with the team mostly healthy (even if we lose to Bammer) and the East is ours.
About like every year really.

I hear you, it is possible he turns it around. I just put a lot into recent history when determining likelyhoods.
-LSU was 3-8 prior to Saban arriving
-UF 7-5 prior to Meyer
-Bama 6-7 prior to Saban
-AU 5-7 prior to Chizik
-AU 3-9 prior to Malzahn
-UF 7-5 prior to Mcelwain (won east)
-UT 5-7 prior to Jones
Not saying you weren't worse off than the above, but they weren't in great spots either. All besides McElwain (still has time) won the SECCG not just division within 3 years.
And like I said all coaches since 2000 with SEC championships besides Tubberville (still had division titles within 3) proved themselves winning the SECCG within 3 seasons, often faster.
You know what you have pretty quick when it's a great one. I just don't like the odds of butch joining that teir. Close ones like Freeze will remain just that. While crazy things did happen (AU 14, Ark 15) he simply didnt get it done, even when he beat the division winner 2 years straight. And it's only going to trend down at this point for him.
Whatever reasons butch didn't last year will likely continue to cost him. I'm speaking in terms of SEC title not division. Trends are always broken however.
All just my opinion, good luck to y'all this season.

I don't think you can compare the situations at any of those schools to ours. I doubt any of them had 3 coaches in the 5 years before their current one. As for the 5-7 thing, that's actually the worst record we've ever had.
