America loves two things: for underdogs to win and for winners and upstanding individuals to be brought down. Why do you think there was so much brouhaha over the Penn State travesty? No offense to the victims, but the fact that it sullied the previously spotless reputation of Paterno made that a HUGE draw.

The problem with Tebow is he's both. He's a terrible quarterback (in the traditional sense), so in essence he's an underdog in every game he plays in the NFL. On the other hand, he's a winner, with heisman and national championship accolades, not to mention a myriad of improbable comebacks. This dichotomy, fueled by the fact that he's very public with his beliefs, make him an irresistable figure to follow whether you hate him or love him.

Personally, I hope he succeeds. He's been a genuine inspiration to a lot of people, and we need more of that in mainstream sports today.

Of course, that didn't keep him from lying about being abstinent. He was getting all kinds of strange down at the First Baptist Church.

...and you know he was getting "all kinds of strange down at the First Baptist Church" how? Were you involved? Was it a man fling?

Let's be honest, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to play in the NFL. Calling Tebow dumb is hardly an insult

At the end of the day, does his team win? If the answer is yes, then he's doing his job.

I'm a LSU fan so Tebow has never really been a favorite but I do respect what he stands for. I don't think he claims to be perfect but he stands up in a very uncommon way for things that are good. I would be just fine with my boy having him as a roll model. We attack the players on here win they mess up and get arrested and when they stand up and try to be a good roll model.

I think he's a great football player.

And I don't want to get into a religious debate here, but he grates on my nerves in many ways.

Dale Earnhardt once said something to the effect of "I don't care if they're cheering me or booing me, as long as they're making noise." Though I don't think Tebow would say anything like that, that's kind of what I think of when he gets talked about incessantly (and yes, it is incessant) in the media. Either way, he's getting more exposure for himself and for his team, and (for Tebow's purposes) broadening his platform to reach people. It makes his haters howl, but it doesn't look like he's going anywhere for the time being.

You gotta admit, though, it's fun to watch, purely from a fan's perspective.

The media does him injustice by harping on him all the time. I've heard his mom speak about their faith, her son and life in general.

They are truly good people.

Personal story--Tebow's faith and background were a huge inspiration to my younger brother. Tim was homeschooled for awhile when he was growing up, just like my siblings and I were (homeschooling made moving with the military at the drop of a hat just a little easier). My brother was obese and out of shape as a freshman in high school. Tebow's example was part of his inspiration to get in amazing shape, play six man football his junior and senior years, fight through a broken collarbone, and become the first homeschool graduate to walk on to the football team at A&M his freshman year. Even today, Tebow and Von Miller are his heroes, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a closet Broncos fan this season for the same reasons.

I really hope Tebow stays clean throughout his career. I'll be the first calling for his head if he turns out to be a fraud, but in my book he's innocent until proven guilty.

It's hard NOT to be popular in a small town when you are involved in everything.

What makes you think I'm jealous? I just have a problem with hypocrisy. I didn't find out about HIS hypocrisy until a few years after graduation. I just used him as an example because he was a lot like Tebow in our small town.

I'm just saying that you can't take everything at face value. Some choose to believe him, some don't. I'm biased as a result of my history with similar personalities.

There are exceptions to every rule. You don't think someone in the media has tried to find out if he's had sex before??? What a story that would be for some hack.

Yeah, I bet those Florida journalists would go out of their way to crucify Jesus.

Because I dated a girl he was with and was friends with another.

Besides, I was Church of Christ. You couldn't have caught me anywhere close to the FBC!

...just kidding. I lived across the street.

Not being perfect is not hypocrisy it is human. I think you can find hypocrisy in all of our lives in one way or another.

For the sake of argument, what exactly are you refusing to take at face value about Tebow? It's not like he's out there engaging in rampant self aggrandizement (case in point: the whole "tebowing" craze was a random moment catching him on the sidelines doing something he's done since high school). Is it just that you don't believe he's a virgin, or simply believing he has hidden faults? If it's the latter, I'm sure Tebow would probably tell you that himself. Christians strive to be "Christ-like," but that's hardly perfection .

Let's be honest here: the main reason people hate Tebow (from a non-football standpoint), is because he seems to good to be true. And honestly, the longer he goes without scandal, the louder the cries will become that he must be a fraud.

Maybe not a Gainesville journalist but if you don't think the other outlets would love to have that story you don't know how ruthless the media can be.

I agree. But in this instance, the guy I'm talking about was constantly "preaching" his own virtue. "Be like me. I'm abstinent. I love christ. You can do it too!" Oversimplified summary, but that was the gist of it for the better part of 6 years.

It's none of my business what the guy (or tebow) do in their personal lives. But if someone comes out and repeatedly says, "I'm a virgin. I'm a virgin. I'm waiting til i get married to glorify God," and turns out to be lying about it? I just find that really low.

Tim has not come out repeatedly and claimed to be a virgin. The media kept asking about it for some strange reason. I never understood that. It was probably an FSU grad doing it.
