UCLA will be a top ten team and have the athletes to compete.

The chances are slim? They have to win the Pac-12, which is a great possibility..not slim. Then they have to win 1 game to get to the championship.

How's that slim?

Because they're UCLA? Because they lost 3 games in the PAC 10 last year? Because a PAC 10 team won one BCS title in the era, and it was vacated? Because it is hard as shite to win a natty, it rarely happens for the PAC 10, and now they'll have to face 2 teams from likely better conferences to win it?

It's pretty unlikely. Picking UCLA to be a good team is fair. Picking them to win it all is a stretch that is probably based in getting clicks and being thought "insightful" more than trying to be accurate.

UCLA is a top 10 caliber team. I'll give Brando that.

Who knows? I think he's a great player from what I can tell. Hype is a different matter. Honestly, I don't care if he gets a ton of hype, I'm not anti-Jack.

No dispute there. Hell, I don't even care that he picked them, really. But it happens a lot of years to where a trendy pick rises to the top, and they just swarm them with attention despite knowing it probably won't work out.

It's not as much an SEC pride thing as an annoyance with how national sports media works.

A conferences reputation on winning titles is the worst argument out there. 08 Florida was different form 09 Alabama, same with '10 Auburn. That argument is worse than "Because they're UCLA". This isn't the UCLA of the 2000's.

UCLA can very well steam roll the Pac-12 this year and play themselves into a top 2 seed.

In Brando's defense, I think everyone is expecting the SEC to have a down year. It's very reasonable to foresee the conference beating up on each other and every team having 2+ losses.

I say that every year about the SEC, but I've been wrong every time. We'll see if this year is different.

He has just slightly more credibility that that Brett Sally guy on fineburns the other day with his pick of Georgia being the most likely sec school to get in the four team playoff.

lol no

The Pac 12 has some serious depth.

From the North, Oregon and Stanford are very good, Oregon State and Washington will be solid teams, and Washington State should make another bowl game.

From the South, Arizona State and USC should be good, and Arizona is no slouch.

UCLA isn't going to steamroll through any conference in 2014.

It is his style to go against convention. I have no problem where Tim Brando (Mr. LSU) picks Auburn.

Not a fan, turn off the radio if I hear his voice.

Are you talking about Barrett Sallee? He's an Auburn guy, I doubt he picked UGA to get to the playoff?

Fair enough. The SEC "big" schools lost so many great, key players that you'd naturally expect them to take a step back this season and beat up on each other.

This is also the year where "lower" schools such as Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee (even though historically Tennessee wouldn't be classified in that category) can really upset some of the bigger schools.

Also, who knows what to expect from Florida. Their offense was so bad last season, but they did have a stiff defense and we should expect the same again this year. I could see Florida "upsetting" some bigger names this year as well.

ETA:

Alabama: West Virginia (Atlanta), Florida, @ Ole Miss, A&M, @ Tennessee, @ LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn.

LSU: Wisconsin (Houston), Mississippi State, @ Auburn, @ Florida, Ole Miss, Alabama, @ Arkansas, @ A&M.

Auburn: @ Kansas State, LSU, @ Mississippi State, South Carolina, @ Ole Miss, A&M, @ Georgia, @ Alabama

Georgia: Clemson, @ South Carolina, Tennessee, @ Missouri, Florida (Jacksonville), Auburn, @ Georgia Tech

South Carolina: A&M, Georgia, Missouri, @ Auburn, Tennessee, @ Florida, @ Clemson

Missouri: UCF, Indiana, @ South Carolina, Georgia, @ Florida, @ A&M, @ Tennessee

These front runners have such difficult schedules that it's hard to imagine them coming out unscathed. Honestly, brace yourself, but if any team looks to do it, I think it will be Alabama.

Jack deserves hype, but he is not the best defensive player in the nation as you stated.

National Football Post (one of the most well respected CFB sources available) from Sports Illustrated has Jack ranked as their 44th best player for next season and has Hundley ranked below Mariota and Winston, along with pretty much every other media outlet.

LINK

Defensive players ahead of Jack:

USC DL Leonard Williams
Clemson DE Vic Beasley
Michigan State DE Shilique Calhoun
Nebraska DE Randy Gregory
Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves III
Tennessee LB A.J. Johnson
Texas DE Cedric Reed
TCU DE Devonte Fields
Florida DE Dante Fowler
Texas CB Quandre Diggs
Arkansas DE Trey Flowers
Alabama S Landon Collins
Virginia Tech CB Kendall Fuller
Utah State OLB Kyler Fackrell
Fresno State S Derron Smith
Syracuse S Durell Eskridge

Is it cool he plays both sides of the ball? Absolutely.
Is he a great player? Absolutely.
Is he the best defensive player in the country? Not by a long shot.

We should win the A&M game so as long we don't have another inexcusable loss (such as to Tennessee) we can afford a loss at Auburn.

I wouldn't have predicted that, you're right, but at least you could justify it. I dont' see any way to justify that this year.
Your logic would have been the same this time last year and could not have agreed with someone justifying a top-5 finish for us last year.
