There is no way teams 5-8 have a legit shot to say they should play for the title. top 4 is enough.

If you are giving the conference champs an automatic bid for the first 5 spots than the next 3 would certainly have a shot.

The playoff is getting like the targeting penalty: out of hand.

I have to disagree with you there. That is what makes college football so special. I think you are forgetting about games like Boise State v. Oklahoma in 2007 Or Texas v Texas Tech when Michael Crabtree scored with no time left. It would set up great upsets.

Who says Western Michigan would even be in an 8 team playoff?

You haven't been paying attention, have you? Do you honestly expect the NCAA to go to an 8 team playoff and not include the top team outside the power 5?

I still want someone to explain why they complain about Bama playing cupcake games out of one side of their mouth, then out of the other side of their mouth they argue why a team that plays nothing but cupcakes should get into the fricking playoffs.

For one, I've never complained about Bama playing "cupcake" games. I don't care who anyone plays out of conference because of how tough playing in the SEC is. I only brought up Western Michigan because they're 12-0. If there was an 8 team playoff, why not just give them a shot? What's the worst that would happen? Bama wins by 28 points and everyone gets to say "I told you so" about a non power 5 team? I'm not saying you would let a non power 5 team in every year, but when they are 12-0 give them a shot.

Then stick to watching March Madness.

What makes college football so special are all the ways it isn't like college basketball. The college basketball regular season is utterly meaningless. College basketball championship tournaments, for the major conferences, are utterly worthless. The expansion of March Madness over the years has absolutely ruined the regular season.

You can just as easily lose key players playing a game. Why not give them a shot? Because we're not running some kind of welfare program here.

The NCAA doesn't determine who is in the playoff

So teams should just stop practicing too because you can just as easily lose key players there as well.

8 is way too many.

For starters, if after 12 regular season games plus Championship weekend you're still ranked 8th, chances are good you don't deserve a spot at the title because you probably have 2 losses.

Next, the whole "5 P5 champs and 3 at larges" is ridiculous because it's entirely possible upsets happen championship weekend. I mean, if VT were to stun clemson this weekend do they REALLY deserve a shot at a national title? Frick no they don't, not even remotely close.

4 is fine.

I got away from my main point that "if" we expanded I would want 8 not 6. I don't have an issue with 4 at the moment. I think 6 causes more issues than 8 and I'm not really happy with a bye system. 8 would just be a better solution for the people that believe conference champs deserve automatic bids but I'm not in agreement with those people.

If they expand...it should be to 8 teams, with the 5 P5 conference champs and 3 at large bids. At large bids automatically seeded 6-8.. First round on campus...last 2 rounds incorporated into bowls as done now.

8 teams, include all P5 champs and any undefeated teams outside of the P5 along with the best remaining at-large teams. I don't see why this isn't a no-brainer and hasn't already been done by now.

8 teams would diminish the regular season even more and pretty much make conference championships useless.

Oh like how the B1G title is useless this year? Unless Washington loses, then the champion doesn't matter. Neither Wisc or PSU will get in without someone else losing.
