If students are allowed to use it then I see no problem with their fees funding it. It's for their benefit/enjoyment and there's likely other sources of income for this. Plans like this are typically allocated from prior year's budgets and today's students look for all kinds of creature comforts and luxuries when choosing a university - sucks but it is what it is.
As for bankruptcy thing... It won't hurt the SEC a bit even if LSU is forced to do it. It will hurt LSU as a university and their various teams on the crootin' trail. That's it and it may not be all that much.

To add on to the point about students:
LSU's new recreation complex will feature a leisure pool or more commonly known as a "lazy river," a feature that is popular among students, but a necessary amenity when competing against other Southeastern Conference schools.
"In surveying students prior to the planning process this was the top item students wanted," said Laurie Braden, the school's director of recreation. "Expanding LSU recreation facilities will enhance LSU's ability to attract and retain high quality students that have many other options in the SEC."
It's their (the students) money and something they want. I see no problem whatsoever.

Why build such a small Lazy River?? Build a Lazy River that winds throughout the state. You could sell tickets to tourists to get out of bankruptcy.

LSU will never file for bankruptcy. It was just a threat on the state.
Besides, all of the other little minion schools in the state would meet that fate first, if it ever came to that.
It's so hard for people to figure out how the real world works.

If the students voted to increase their fees to build that stupid pool, so be it.
What I want to know is who the hell is running the state of Lousiana? How in the hell do you let the financial situation get that bad. I understand half the state looks like Haiti, and is a welfare state, but how does this type of funding deficit happen?

It's not that bad--I.e. It's not that roughly $550 million went missing. Jindal was trying to posture as taking a hard line on budget cuts. One of the easiest places for the Louisiana legislature to cut budget is higher ed and Medicare. Basically he used LA's higher education budget as toilet paper so he can go up to Iowa or Ohio in 2016 and talk about how much he tried to cut spending.
Frick Bobby Jindal.

The damage can be fixed with a little money. Here are some fund raising proposals:
-Have Les teach a combined greens juicing and lawn care course.
-Rent out their team vote mechanism to the state to improve local politics.
-Make sure the stadium has a lead role in The Lego Movie 2.
-Rent out the space in Aggie heads to other fanbases

Same thing happening in Kansas with Brownback. Depends on who's running the state and what type of programs they are cutting. And Kansas is far from a welfare state, just bad political moves.

These dumbies really don't understand the gold mine that is LSU. I've said this like 8 times. LSU is 1 out of 5 schools that operate in the black. How can all of you be so dumb?

Seems like that is the real problem, not Bobby.
There is a reason it is setup that way. Once you discover the reason you discover the real problem.

He said Cope is looking at the project all wrong.
“That’s not how the money flow works at LSU. That’s not how student government money flow works,” he said. “So all these kinds of arguments about that and about how we’re spending our money, they’re totally unrelated and really don’t stand up.”
Nearly all taxpayers who commented about the situation on NOLA, however, seem to side with Cope.
So this is why Louisiana continues to have issues....you can hit people with the truth like a hammer, but they still believe the "sky is falling" rhetoric no matter what. The bankruptcy thing was a political play by LSU's president that got exactly what higher education in the state wanted, relief from budget cuts. LSU was never in danger of actually filing bankruptcy anybody that believes it is an idiot.
What these "higher education" institutes in the state need to be doing is looking at themselves and figuring out how they can help the state.....in the case of places like SUNO and others the answer would be to shut the doors.
