I agree that both sides of the debate have exploited this issue, Dawg, but I trust scientists rather than kibitzers for either side, and prefer NOAA:

Not overly concerned. Anomoly's like this happen every so often.
In 1970 Columbia actually had a low of 15 degrees.
In 1972 there was a high of 88 degrees.

I remember that cold snap in 1970 ... but it was not snow.

A couple of days ago we hit 90 here. We've been in the mid to upper 80s for several days the past few days until yesterday.

But it just keeps getting crazier right now. The snow is actually starting to slow down and we can now see lightening and hear thunder through the snow to our north ... and it is the first time in my life I have ever seen anything like this. Lightening through the snow storm - it's almost surreal. And the thunder. It's just weird as heck.

I'm glad I had the big propane tank filled last week. I almost didn't do it. 500 gallons, so we've got power. It may be awhile as more and more reports of power outages are coming down everywhere here in Lexington County.

The other weird thing ... the temperature is actually dropping in front of this apparent thunderstorm that is now getting close - and the wind is really blowing.

No kidding ... strangest weather I can ever remember and I've been in bad weather all over this world. I saw something similar to this maybe three decades ago in the Tyrolia region of northern Italy just at the base of the Dolemite Alps around Cortina ...in the Beluno Valley, but that was at over 6,000 feet of elevation. We're barely over 600 feet here.

The key to understanding global warming is to understand the solution is socialism. That pretty much tells you what this is about and who is pushing it.

Btw my favorite was that CNN anchor who ask Bill Nye (sp?) the science guy if the asteroid that passed near earth was due to global warming.

How the hell is 4 " of snow snapping trees?

Did it start out as ice? Or just a sloppy slush?

We're surrounded by loblolly pines ... long needle pines specific to this part of the country.

They collect tremendous amounts of snow and they are relatively thin trees in the first place, but tall. The sap freezes, the weight causes them to bow and pop.

Looks like the maples are out there shaking it off already. And the cypress trees are okay. We lost one of the dogwoods. And a bunch of pines have popped. The nachez crepe myrtles are taking a beating too. The palm trees and palmetto trees are unfazed they would appear. So are the oaks and hickorys. But the pines are bent over, some of them almost touching the ground.

I just looked up the range of the loblolly pines ... doesn't look like y'all have any up in Missouri. These trees are not made to endure this kind of snowfall.

When they are loaded with snow, you should hear it out there right now, they bend over and snap like gunshots going-off.

The head of the noaa is appointed by the President, it's a political appointee and everything below that appointee is going to be political.

Ok. No problem. as I said, I hijacked this thread and should not. I had looked up information froM NOAA also that appeared to support different data, and as the link I posted showed, there have been MANY more record lows than highs. I found another article saying that over the past 20 years there has definitely been a cooling.

If the scientists that you rely on want people to buy into it, then they need to quit manufacturing data and harrassing opposing views.

That said, let's TRY not to keep going. I take full responsibility for the hijacking. I knew better than to say something political, but I all too often allow my alligator mouth overload my hummingbird behind!

I suspect we BOTH come here to relax and talk football,...maybe even harass an opposing fan base from time to time.

We didn't hit 90 here, but like you, we were around 86 or so. It's normal for the temperatures to fluctuate this time of the year..it just seems like it is more extreme this year.
