I like how everyone forgets about AU/UGA/UT, who are in the same voting boat as Alabama (minus the fact that they didn't support Alabama in moving for the 9 game schedule.) Give them their due, they do have some small pull in the league.

Saban wanted nine games in conference. Your coach... along with every other coach except Saban.... only wanted eight.
Call Freeze up. It's bad enough we beat your as* every year. We should play you twice each year just to remind you that you're about 5th on the pecking order of legitimate teams... in the WEST. Enjoy.

Why exactly is Saban's idea "so smart"? With the SEC championship game, that would make it a 10 game SEC season. We beat ourselves up while Ohio State plays mabe 3 meaningful games a yr, when it the yr to play Wisconsin or Mich.State. If Saban wanted to play 6 games a yr, bama fans would be all over that, too. Yet, having to play 10 SEC games a yr reflects just how much he is worried bout player safety. 10 games would not be a grind, it would require a MASH unit to keep all the players healthy .

We wanted a 9 game conference schedule. I'm sure that would have helped matters a lot actually. Everyone else voted against it.

I love it. I absolutely love it! TSIO forever!

The nine-game SEC schedule was voted down because it made too much sense.
And the fan bases of some of these schools are being hypocritical because the proposal was voted down in order to keep OOC rivalries intact - rivalries that are REALLY one-sided like Georgia-Georgia Tech. People love to nag on Alabama and their "easy" game with Tennessee (forget the fact that trend is very recent) but ignore the fact that Georgia Tech has only beaten Georgia twelve times in the last fifty years.

This is all Alabama's fault.
Literally nobody outside the two fanbases cares about the Tennessee-Alabama rivalry, yet they held the entire conference up to make sure it's played every season.
UGA-Aub. is a very long historied rivalry that these 2 want to keep.
MSU-Kent. has quite the history too. They want to keep.
I've never heard any Florida fan want to give up LSU.
So, right there is 1/2 the conference who want to KEEP cross-div. rivalries.

The UGA-Ole Miss series will not resume until the next decade. This, by itself, is shitty.
When was this a thing?
ETA: we play in 2016

SEC will go to a 9 game schedule sooner than later. This will not be an issue long

I will expand on this a bit while putting on my tin foil hat.
Obviously, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia want to keep the rivalries. Ole Miss and Vandy play each other and generally are pretty happy with their cross division opponents as neither are historically strong as the other teams in their division. The same goes with MSU and UK. That is 8 teams right there. Arkansas now plays Missouri every year, so neither team has to go far to travel to the game which is nice.
That means the only teams that aren't really benefitting from the scheduling are LSU, A&M, South Carolina, and Florida. I think Florida and South Carolina also are pretty content to vote to keep cross divisional rivalries because of the gentlemen's agreement to keep Clemson, FSU, and GT out of the conference. I wouldn't be shocked if A&M got in on this as a way to prevent other Big 12 schools from coming in.
This of course means LSU is the only team not getting anything out of the deal, but everyone hates LSU anyway

This was the exact same argument used against the idea of an SEC Championship Game when the first expansion happened in 1992. The only difference now is that we have a playoff to decide our national champion.

When A&M wins 4 national championships in half a decade, I'll start demanding stuff from the conference. Until then, I'm gonna defer to the current dynasty of college football. I suggest you do the same.

Yea, forget about UT, AU, and UGA. Their interest in preserving rivalries had nothing to do with this. Just the gump fault. Also not OM, Vandy, MSU, or UK's fault for voting to keep permanent opponents.
