You'll have to ask someone who participates in them.

In my opinion, AU will never move to the East.

14 is a weird number ... 16 would probably be better, because they would have to divide up into 4 divisions, so you would see everyone more often and have less permanent games.

I truly think that if the P5 decides to take control of their own Division, the NCAA, is going to want there to be 6 conferences ( AAC, I guess); and will insist on each conference going to 16 teams... they will leverage all the other sports to get this probably.

16 teams gives the ability to aid in a better playoff system as well. With having a 4 team playoff in each conference in addition to the other playoff. if you have 6 major conferences, gives you the ability to have a 6 team playoff(top 2 get a bye)

The following statement is ridiculous to the point of downright stupid:
quote:

Bama spokesperson issued a statement saying bama opposed this, in part due to concerns (fear) it would help AUs recruiting

Either there is a link to this SPOKESPERSON'S STATEMENT, or there is not.

The rest is standard auburn slanted interpretation, which is par for the course, as is my Bama slanted interpretations. But the above statement is just laughable.

no it's not, it does suck worse than 12 though

no

they don't have to, they could have just as easily used "pods" for the 14 and chose not to. Just because something is logical, doesn't mean Slive/SEC will go that route.

and will insist on each conference going to 16 teams

you're delusional

still delusional

No one outside of the state of Mississippi gives two turds about the Egg Bowl either. What's your point?

I am working with the REC to get it back to ten. If super conferences are not going to happen, and I still believe they are, ten is ideal #. NCAA could adjust the playoff requirement for conferences, that's not that big of a deal.

come back to me in 5 years, when this is exactly what college football will look like.

Just because , you don't like the idea, does not mean, we are not headed that way.

You have your head in the sand if you don't believe it.

there are 125 fbs schools.

if you go to 6- 16 team leagues. you are at 96. + ND, BYU, ARMY GETS YOU TO 99

that will allow for 6 AQ & 2 at large for a 8-team playoff..

Im sorry if you can't see the writing on the wall.

Unless we go to 20, then you get your 10 back as a "division."

not a snowballs chance in hell of this happening in five years.

That could be accomplished without 16 team conferences.

A few years ago, it was clear as day that realignments would continue until we had 4 superconferences...and then suddenly it stopped. There's good reason to believe it will still happen, but no reason to think it's inevitable. Things change quickly, and we're talking about multiple institutions and conferences who are out for their own interests.

Impossible. College football is locked in place for a while, with every major conference except the SEC locked in a GOR and all major conferences having new-ish media deals.

Maybe within 20 years we will see big changes...

I think college football would much worse off without the Iron bowl or the Michigan/OSU game or the Texas / Oklahoma game or Army / Navy for that matter.

quote:

Just how would it be worse off without those games? Please explain. Texas and Texas A&M have been playing every year for decades. They stop playing all of a sudden and guess what: no one cares! It sucks that we don't have that game anymore but it doesn't effect our lives or the life of college football.

If it doesn't matter then why the hell are you idiots so dead set against losing the Bama / Tenn game that NOBODY outside of those fan bases cares to watch? People outside of the fan bases love watching the games mentioned above because those games have in most people's lifetimes been both on TV and generally entertaining. They are part of the fabric of College Football.

You're right about A&M / Texas only mattering to those fanbases and the fact that everyone yawned when it went away should tell you what would happen if Bama / Tenn did the same. It's not a rivalry anyone but you cares about. It's not worth fricking up the schedule over and if Tennessee was kicking your arse your toothless fanbase would suddenly decide that game wasn't worth it, for the good of the conference of course.

My thinking is that all Confs will expand with smaller schools. The GOR. Will not matter in those cases.

We are set for a bit, with the new conference rules in place for some of the conferences and the adaptation of the new playoff. But one little thing happens after a few years and we will be onto the next phase of expansion
