Some of this is laughable but some makes sense
This must be where some of the LSU fans got the state retirement angle, even though the writer doesn't seem to understand that the University of Alabama is actually in the state of Alabama, and he thinks the state has a lucrative retirement system.

I'm surprised nobody has done an article explaining the system, and whether it's a legit reason, or just a small fraction of the actual payout. I thought must coaching salaries were funded by a majority of booster organization money, not by the state itself.

Miles tried to keep Steele when the two met Tuesday morning in Houston, Texas, after the Tigers' defense played well in a 56-27 win over Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl. But Steele said no and left for Auburn Tuesday evening.
Also this quote from the article....
The game was ON Tuesday....Steele coached Tuesday night, probably talked to Miles this morning, and left WEDNESDAY. (tonight-4pm CST)
If the article is right then he said he was leaving for Auburn before the Texas Bowl.

I think he meant after the game last night early this AM, but yeah, lots of mistakes, big and small.

Yeah, I don't think it would be a major point for taking a job, but like I stated in another thread. The Bama retirement program must be good enough for Tubs losing his job, and keeping his BBQ buddies until they got their ten years.

It's lucrative enough that, had Auburn fired Jacobs after his third year as AD (remember, before that promotion he'd never made more than $70k), his annual pension would have been around $300k annually.
I'm using Jacobs as an example because he was in an article about the RSA.

Damn near sad.
LSU is a shell of its former self.

I'm not devastated that Steele left, but I really don't know who Miles will be able to get as a replacement at this point.
Alleva has doomed this program, I think. Who the hell would want to be a coach under him?

Oh shite, I thought I cared.
Happy new year.

First off, you bring facts like Muslims attending Catholic Church and secondly Steele was Miles only choice because of our master frickup artist Alleva. If anybody deserves to be shite canned it is Alleva. He could frickup a butter sandwich with directions

Dead serious. I don't remember the exact number, but it was a ridiculous amount because it's based on your three highest years salary.
The article also talked about abuses of the system because some employees would save up years of vacation and sick time, which they would cash out at retirement and it counted towards salary for the pension calculation. Some were able to double their annual salary that way. (I think that loophole may be closed now)

Well that system is in jeopardy and possibly bankrupt within 10 years. But would a coaches salary count if most isn't paid by the state?

I didn't write that story baw.

For linking a GG article without a warning.

It was important to Oliver, because he left for a large raise, knowing he was near retirement and his lifetime pension would be based on the state portion of his salary those last few years.
If you want to know what the University pays anyone, you can look on Open Alabama.

What is wrong with it? He went because of a 300k pension.
