A few years ago, companies started popping up that would set up tailgating tents, complete with satellite/TV, nice tents. This started at Bama (Gameday Tents, Tailgate Guys) and has spread to other SEC schools and a few outside the SEC. Some of these tents were getting $10k per season. Fairly elaborate setups.

Mississippi State made a move today that other schools will begin to copy. The university decided only one company could do these on campus. And in typical Mississippi crooked fashion, they chose the one company that was owned by a university employee.

I'm pretty sure Tailgate Guys are the only ones that can do it on Auburn already

So if you set up your own are you considered a scab? Will this company have goons in the Junction to rough people up? I like my kneecaps and thumbs as they are

I wouldn't apologize for them. I think they are pretty awesome. We have a big group that does one. Makes tailgating 10x easier to not have to worry about set up and everything. Now, I would be very opposed to the school only allowing tailgating through these services, but having a designated area for them and then let anyone else go wherever they want is fine by me.

Would it be okay if they took your long term tailgate spot?

I like the idea of designated areas and the contracted company to set up tents. But leave room for free range tailgating. MSU's campus has become the most fan-unfriendly place imaginable on game day, imo.

Didn't that guy quit his day job? He owns a military grade tactical tailgating vehicle. I would think he could quit his day job considering the scale of their operations across multiple universities, nascar, and saints games.

They did. I didn't like it at first, but honestly I've enjoyed tailgating much more since we started using them.

I disagree completely. Everything is fantastic IMO... and go ahead and rant about the new golf cart policy... when some 8 year kid runs you over on one and you can't find his parents to whipe their arse you will lose your sh*t.

Yeah you mean right next to the stadium in the best spot, while people who've setup there for years were pushed out.

With the removal of the parking lots on other side of stadium(Arena/dorm build), new Foy and the tailgate guys, among all the other new rules/parking guidelines they pushed a lot of people out

So no more Southern Traditions? The people that I know that used them, liked what they did. But, as a non-user, they were allowed to encroach more and more on folks traditional spots. But, it's all about the money and common folk be damned!

Upvote. Not a fan of these at all, then again I'm cheap. We all pitch in and pay some students to set up and take down, then bring all the stuff ourselves. I just don't see paying $3,500 a year for 7 games. You can buy what comes with it for a fraction of the cost and use it year after year. If their is an exclusive provider now, I assume that cost will go up.

That's why I don't pay $50 per seat to have a seatback added to my season tickets. I spent $100 on 4 stadium seats 4 years ago and the still look brand new, but to each his own.

Tailgate guys is available in College Station, but there's no requirement that they be used. I just pulled up Texas A&M's tents policy.
quote:

Tents are limited to appropriate outdoor areas as determined by the University. Tents may never be erected on the MSC Lawn, the Chapel Grounds, Bonfire Memorial, Rudder Statue Area or Cain Park, with the exception of the 30-foot wide area that runs along and adjacent to Parking Lot 39. Other areas such as the Simpson Drill Field, Duncan Field, Corps Quad, Athletic Fields, recreation fields and other similarly designated University sites are restricted and require prior approval. The set-up for tents varies according to its use and the site- specific guidelines.

1.1.1 Use of tents during tailgating activities for home NCAA sporting events do not require prior approval except on certain sites (or size restrictions noted below) which are listed at LINK . All tents and membrane structures (or group of tents placed side by side with less than a 12 foot clearance between each tent) having an area greater than 400 square feet shall not be erected, operated or maintained for any purpose without first obtaining a permit from Environmental Health & Safety.
