Of course not. You get a search firm to call his agency or friends. 95% of contacts are unofficial. They at least called his people.

Duh. Don't go burnt orange on us and assume we din't know that. You'll find SEC fans are fairly savvy.
in this search Long didn't use a search firm to make those contacts. He didn't use one on Petrino either but that's another story. He used some other individuals who are well placed. It looks like he did target Patterson, which would have been a good hire.
