I think it's pretty clear that the issue was their being pre-poll era titles. I have zero problem claiming an undefeated Rose Bowl champion as a National Championship.
Truthfully, the only people who do take exception are the ones who are attempting to marginalize Bama's title claims. They'd be better off sticking to 1941.
