What was the original threat and where did it originate? I've read a few articles and haven't seen anything other than vague references.
The original threat was posted on a Bid Day link/photo where the poster said they intended to retaliate or seek retribution on the Greeks (specifically soroities) for the racial issues with the lack of minorities receiving bids. It was a sick post threatening to take the lives of greeks, that they would be watching everything the greeks did including swaps/parties, etc.

fricking Patriot Act bullshite, "making a terrorist threat".
The original culprit made a threat to a very large group of people at UA with the intention of terrorizing them. Classes were cancelled in some cases, greek functions were postponed or cancelled altogether and the university as well as law enforcement took the necessary precautions to investigate.

Damn. I hated the Greeks when I was at Bama, but that's pretty messed up. Hope they find the person responsible.

Sick fricks roaming around everywhere.

My daughter is a freshman at UA (in a sorority) and this shite definitely caused some uncomfortable nights for those girls which of course lead to hysteria as well.

Isn't that already a crime?

Maybe we should pile on and prosecute him for a 'hate crime' as well, no?

Make a threat and break three laws at the same time - a hat trick!

No way this kid needs to be sent to prison - he made a very stupid decision, but in this case, the punishment (prison) would not fit the crime

My guess is that he gets a few weeks in county or city lock-up; a few years of community service; huge fines and probation for something like 5 years

I am sure he is already kicked out of school - I think the kid is from Virginia

prison for him would serve no purpose for anyone

So you're all for letting shite like that flow like water under the bridge? You have no problem when someone targets a group of individuals and gets pretty specific about who they intend to harm, and the weapon they they intend to harm them with? You have no problem with a person that says they are basically stalking a group of individuals and intends to injure them?

They haven't found the original person that authored the threat - still under investigation. There were at least 2 others that unwisely chose to publicize their opinions during the panic from last week and they've been arrested, and rightly so IMO.

This non-sense of calling everything under the sun "terrorism" should scare people.

Yeah, you're still a kid at 19. Those of you who are around that age may hate hearing it, but you're not fully developed yet. You're only legally developed. Stupid, stupid kid, ruining his life at 19. Would he still have been stupid enough to do it at 39? Maybe. Who knows? But that doesn't mean he isn't still a stupid kid.

Why do you think criminal activity should 'flow like water under a bridge'?

But I'll say this, over the years I've evacuated buildings 3 times due to bomb threats. At no point did I ever feel terror.

unless the kid was building a pressure cooker bomb in his apt, they should let him go, the hyper knee jerk reactionary govt and BS of the "patriot act" are great excuses for govt to ignore basic liberty and cow a bunch of idiots into being herded like sheeple.

"bullshite" is right.

I am 35 and I still remember the day I turned 18 thinking, ok if I do anything wrong now I am an adult and could go to prison. At that moment everyone of us is no longer a child. You all are using "kid" as an interchangeable word for being an idiot. It also is pretty much giving an excuse to why this guy did what he did. "He is just a dumb kid".

It should be drilled into every person turning 18 that you are now an adult and will be treated as such. if you baby 18 to 25 yr olds into thinking they are still kids, they will act that way and it is partly your fault. I am surprised I have to say this to an older generation, but maybe that is the problem in the first place.

Hell no, a few hundred hours of community service is justified and would do him good.

I'm somewhat torn on this issue as people who have done far worse received a lesser punishment.
