fricking ridiculous! I know a lot of people don't care for soccer, but it should be added way before horse riding. Title IX has prevented the SEC from having it, and now we're going to get this shite first?

They have bull riding as a sport at some colleges!

When I was a senior working at the Freebird's on Northgate (if you've never been, hit one up when you're in College Station or Houston), the Auburn equestrian team cam in after some sort of competition.

I was excited because they were hot and I figured I could talk to someone from home while I made their burrito (and some eye contact). Turns out every one of them was from OK, Kansas, or Wyoming, except for one girl from Florida. This makes me think that the equestrian team at Auburn is probably pretty solid. Can't wait to see the results from some head-to-head.

The think we're satisfied with women's soccer I guess. I am from an area where soccer is as big as football. We had a separate soccer and football stadium.

Equestrian is a collegiate sport? Also, how is Kentucky not involved with anything that has to do with horses?

Your questions require several answers.

1) Equestrian is a very cool sport and Auburn has had a varsity teams for several years. Texas A&M also has a damn good one.

2) Equestrian is almost exclusively female so it allows schools to comply with the Title Whatever bullshite. Also, equestrian teams are VERY cheap - maybe $500,000 per year max.

3) Kentucky is not the end all be all of things equine. Quarter Horses were first bred in Virginia - YES, Virginia. Saddle Horses were first bred in Missouri. Walking Horses in Tennessee. Thoroughbreds in England. The fact is that in the overall scheme of things Kentucky has not contributed jack shite to the advancement of equine science.

Auburn has arguably the best overall Equestrian program in the nation right now followed very closely by UGA.

Ky and lsu are both still club sports.

Back when I was on the team we were in a region with Texas am, west Texas am, ok st, Ks st, etc.

1. Rich Chicks ride horses
2. They ride horses they own
3. They care for and transport these horses
4. The university spends very little on the team but gets a big boost to Title IX participation numbers by adding 30 female athletes to the balance sheet at minimal cost.

1. No. I'm poor
2. University needs to have horses, you don't ride/show your own.
3. No care or transport. When you get to a show, the host team provides all horses. Horse names are drawn, and you don't ride the horse at all before you go in and jump.
4. It's pretty damn expensive, especially when traveling far.

That's actually pretty cool.

You get to watch them warm up, that's it. I always seemed to get the one acting a fool

Can't touch the reins until you are taken into the ring. You are also stuck with whatever saddle is on the horse.

I made up for my bad luck of horses with good saddles, at least :)

Much nicer than what I have.

Good point given the importance of horse breeding and horse racing in the state's economy.

UGA's team just spent about 5million on a farm in Oconee Cty. They have a very active alumni support group.

NCAA equestrian has both hunt and western seat comps. I rode IHSA many moons ago, and we only competed in hunt seat on the flat and over jumps.

For the pervs out there, you can probably find Kate Upton pics sporting UGA gear as her sister rode on the UGA team a couple of years ago.

It is a very expensive sport mainly because the larger teams maintain probably between 35-50 head, since a few are always lame and out of commission.
