all I know for sure is ESPN's own flack said this
quote:

“This is a national network,” said Skipper. “This is not a regional network.”

ESPNU is in about 75 million homes, and that’s the expectation for the SEC Network as well, Skipper said.

LINK

so thats not exactly beating out the BTN just yet.

Skipper said in the PC that they expected ESPN-level availability inside the SEC footprint, and ESPNU-level availability outside the SEC footprint. No real reason to think the SECN would only get ESPNU-level distribution across the entire country.

Remember, SEC schools don't have to lay out any upfront money at all. Also, ESPN will be constantly growing the market share for the SECN.

Fox Sports is to ESPN in marketing as the Big X is to the SEC in football. Definitely second rate.

I think this is a VERY easy sell to cable providers.

You go to them and say "You need live sports to keep people from dropping your services for Hulu and Netflix. You will pay $10 a month for the entire ESPN packages (1/2/U/SEC) and for that we will give your customers a reason to pay you an extra $60 every month."

There is a reason the network is getting so many games, and WILL NOT be streamed to those without supporting cable providers.

This is ESPN's solution to the problem of cord cutters.

Every SEC school needs the value of the SEC Network to go up. As it goes up, we all get richer...

Plus we all need to call and demand it from our cable provider.

ESPN has some shite talent that they could drop on us.

imagine the revolt if Bayliss gets a daily show on the Network.

But I would love to see Finebaum host a Jerry Springer type show. lol

1 - doesn't make sense that they would hamstring themselves in this deal. I'm certain there are some stop gap measures in place if the SEC catches them sandbagging or otherwise not performing.

2 - Yeah, if Baylis were to get a show - that would be bad.

3 - Oh shite, never thought of that. I'll bet that's what that sunuvabitch has been holding-out for knowing he was getting a show on the network and may, very well, have a simulcast radio show on the network ala Dan Patrick (NBC) and Tim Brando (CBS or FOX or wherever.)

moving Finebaum to a morning show than can be televised like Mike & Mike/Cowherd could be interesting.... but I'd expect that ESPN may develop Mark Packer as a SEC channel host.

Makes total sense, although I cannot stand Mark Packer, but he's already right there in Charlotte so you may be correct - it does make sense.

Packer the taterhead had better watch his mouth where the Gamecocks are concerned if he does get that job. And if he goes on there and rails for the taterheads to get an invite next expansion - then his arse needs to be fired immediately.

As long as he knows his boundaries going-in then it might work. Although, no one is going to unseat Dan Patrick as king of the morning shows imho - but, then again, radio stations in the southeast may buy into it, who knows. I can tell you it has been tried many many times before and it has never worked.

Packer may be in Charlotte, but Finebaum already has the audience.

Can you imagine the ratings if they made it a skype-based call-in show, where you'd have a split-screen of Finebaum on the left, and Phyllis from Mulga on the right?

Packer would be a good company man for the mothership... Finebaum is not going to give up his radio network, but could be rebroadcast on TV like they do you Mike & Mike/ Cowherd.

The trick is to be proactive. Call your cable provider and demand they bring it to your market!

Bonus points if you threaten to teabag the manager or kill his wife's trees if he doesn't comply. Time to show these cable folks how SEC people roll.
