Is there such a thing as moral hardware? How about if it has the words "Co-", I think so.

It wouldn't surprise me to see our defense fall a bit next season and we only win 8-9 games. But then, I expected our defense to drop off a bit from last season due to losses of Taylor, Swearinger, Holloman, and our entire LB depth.

And yet while our defense DID decline in some areas, most of them was almost neglible:

Scoring Defense:
2012: 13th (18.2 ppg)
2013: 15th (20.0 ppg)

Rushing Defense:
2012: 17th (120.69 ypg)
2013: 33rd (142.25 ypg)

Passing Defense:
2012: 21st (194.8 ypg)
2013: 18th (202.8 ypg)

Total Defense:
2012: 11th (315.5 ypg)
2013: 17th (345.0 ypg)

Obviously we still have a game to play, but I was expecting our defense to fall to the 20-40 rankings overall, but felt that our offensive improvements, a weaker SEC schedule, and a dominant Jadeveon Clowney would help cancel all that out. Clowney didn't have the year we all expected, and our LBs did have issues earlier in the season (I feel our run defense has suffered due to inexperience there), but overall we again had a stellar defense overall...

Next season as was posted above we bring back almost all of our offensive 2-deep. We lose Shaw who was the best QB USC has ever had IMO, but will have a very experienced replacement in Thompson.

Our RB depth will be among the deepest in the SEC for next season, and we return our entire WR depth and TE depth (unless someone leaves early which no one has truly earned the right to consider it yet).

There has been some rumblings during the season that almost our entire starting underclassmen OL depth may all mass bolt for the NFL, but Cann, Shell, and Robinson have never publicly stated that they are even considering it, and USC insiders have never gotten a whiff of anything. So if they all return for 2014, we will for the 2nd consecutive year have 4 of our returning 5 starters on a very solid OL back for the next season...

As for defense we have a lot of rebuilding to do but will return a lot of depth and experience. Our young LBs have proven to be as talented as we all expected, and now have a season of experience. They should be a strength for us in 2014. We lose both of our CBs but return all safeties with increased experience.

Our interior DL should be fine with Surratt, Dixon Jr., Dukes, Griffin, and Green all returning. The DE spot is what most concerns me, but IMO I thought Sutton underachieved this season and backup Mason Harris showed more promise in his limited opportunities...

So the SEC didn't send us a trophy for being East co-champions last year? We also got one in 03 (along with Tennessee). Georgia has some from 07 and 92.

You are unlike any Gator fan I've ever known ... shameless, lacking pride, almost pathetic.

Do other Gator fans claim you?

Typical deflection from a fan who's team can't beat GA Southern.

2014 may not be much tougher. We'll pay @ Auburn, and that's far away the toughest game on our schedule. We host TAMU in our season opener, with no Manziel most likely and that terrible defense. We host UGA with no Murray, that UGA OL which we love so much and Richt is bringing back Grantham (MUwahahaahaha!!). We host Missouri and Tennessee, and play @ Florida but they aren't Florida anymore.

We'll have our chances at Atlanta again next season...

An SECCG appearance, SEC East Division Title, double digit wins in the past 3 seasons, first 11 win season in our history. Yea it's totally been a frustrating four years.

The entire offensive backfield returns, the offensive line returns, all of the wideouts come back, and Thompson steps in with plenty of big-game experience.

This is obviously most concerning. If everybody does indeed come back on this side of the ball there is experienced talent there. I'm thankful that we return 21 of our 22 deep on D (as long as neither Ramik, Herrera, nor Swann go dumb and declared) and that we will have already played against Clemson. Further, I think Dylan Thompson's lack of mobility will be beneficial to us.

Plus, I think Mangus is a light-years better QB coach than he gets credit for. Thompson will be just fine next year.

No question there, he got everything he could out of from Garcia and Shaw was much better than I ever expected.

The D-line loses Clowney, Sutton, and Quarles, but returns the Dixons, Dukes, English and Harris. The secondary will struggle losing Hampton and Williams

I have to say that losing 2 corners and your 2 best pass rushers really works for me. I like our chances on this side of the ball.

I think this program has earned the assumption that they will reload every year.

It has been good times in Columbia, no doubt. I just think at same point there has to be a little regression after being so good for so long before you rally back and annually compete again. This could possibly be the year with the schedule. Especially compared to ours. We get Clemson, AU, UT, Vandy, and GT all at home w/ UF neutral. Travel to Arky (not even in their own stadium, mind you), UK, Mizzou and y'all. And, like I've stated, I just think we have the advantage on paper in that game at this point in time. Long ways away

Mark Richt: 2002-2007

Mark Richt: 2008-2010

Mark Richt: 2011-2013 (yes, we were actually very good at one point IMO)

Obviously, the elephant in the room is when will Spurrier retire? 68 is by far the oldest in the conference. Rich Brooks retired at that age if I'm not mistaken. Bowden was obviously much older, but Spurrier doesn't have the emotional ties or legacy at SC like Bowden at FSU and I don't think Spurrier wants to see his career deteriorate like Bowden's did.

agreed. I think UGA's decline starts next year with no Aaron Murray. UGA/UF/UT will be unranked in 2014 most likely.

Not gonna deny it is frustrating. Probably not as frustrating as being a UGA fan the last five years, but yes, definitely frustrating.

As to the window closing -- no, not hardly. Spurrier has us reloading. We don't get the gaudy recruiting rankings UGA, UF and UT (this year) get -- yet somehow we manage to keep winning. Spurrier and his assistants are really good at evaluating and developing players.

If we can get over the annual WTF loss, we are in the SECG. Only Bama has been more consistent.

We still have the best coaching in the East. UF is a dumpster fire; UT's staff is unproven; UGA fans want to fire Richt every other year and Grantham's defense consistently underachieves. Props to Mizzou and Pinkel this year -- let's see how consistent Mizzou can be. Looks like the big 3 in the East for the foreseeable future are Mizzou, USC and UGA.

Its not implausible, just unlikely IMO. With an upper classman QB, Richt averages just over 10 wins a year and we return so much on a D that actually performed well against the run. We've recruited pretty well.

UT loses every OL and everybody off the Front 7. I'll get back to you in the offseason.

I don't think he will get to the point of Bowden, but he is on record stating he loves it in Cola and is very much part of the university now.

Also he's signed through 2017 (I know he could leave earlier) but that speaks for itself.

No, you're right, on paper UTk appears headed for another rough year. But, if they can hold onto to a pretty impressive recruiting class they seem to have lined-up, and if they can get some production out of their young guys - who knows, they may win six games next season.

As far as SCAR goes, I for one honestly believe our D is going to be better. Our offense will not look the same, we will not run the same offense ... it'll look far more like Spurrier's UF offenses in the mid nineties.

Good. In that case SC's co-eastern Championship with UT in basketball in the 2008-2009 makes us one of the best basketball programs out of the East in the last 5 years because of our one shared division title with UT, according to your logic.

Last 5 seasons SEC titles goes as

SC - 1 Eastern title
UT - 1 Eastern title
UF - 1 Eastern Title, 2 SEC Titles after dissolution of divisions
UK - 1 Eastern title, 2 SEC titles after dissolution of divisions

SEC office.

How so?

Playing seven bowl teams?

Beating two top ten teams?

Being the only SEC team to play back-to-back-to-back SEC road games without an off week in decades?

The road win at #15 and 10-1 UCF?

Again, how so? Or are you just posting out your arse again?

Eta: Oh wait, I know. It's because of #6 FCS Coastal Carolina, amirite?
