This candidate could only be Hugo Freeze.

But we wouldn't be that concerned really because he got lucky in '14 and cheated big time for '15 to happen.

Meyer would never come to a program to be 2nd fiddle in the state of Alabama and 2nd fiddle to Nick Saban.

There is no one else who Auburn could hire who would beat Saban once during their tenure.

These are the facts.

Freeze would be annoying because he would be able to recruit skill players in state that we're after and steal 1-2 per cycle.

I'm not sure that he could ever pull better talent at Auburn than he had at Ole Miss though, and we know how he was able to do that. He was getting 5 star players from Illinois and Georgia to go to Ole Miss

Did you not see Freeze’s last year at OM? And what he left Luke with? And his coordinators he hired? Freeze was good for 3 years the his ego destroyed him.

Matt Campbell wouldn't win the press conference like Freeze. But for longer lasting, solid results; he's the one who would concern me.

Lol. What has Freeze actually won as a HC? Cristobal and Napier are better

Freeze left OM in shambles.

saban made his arse quit across state lines, zero percent chance Meyer would put himself in that situation. He'd have an esophageal spasm just thinking about it

No coach would concern me at Auburn. They are who they are. The little step brother in this state, always have been, always will be.

Maybe. He was 2-3 versus Saban using a type of offense that gave Alabama trouble no matter who ran it. Things have changed since then. He’d be a pain in the arse recruiting against but I don’t think that offense is as unique and difficult to defend as it was in 2012-2015.

Freeze lost 5 games a year at OM on average. He is the HC equivalent to Johnny Manziel. Their entire hype is/was based off beating Alabama.

Freezus had the benefit of catching Saban while he was still running a defense that was big and slow up front with big linebackers. He has since recruited much faster and leaner guys. Saban also has gotten better with getting personnel in faster so I don't think Freezus would have the same level of success honestly. Not to mention can Freezus recruit top shelf guys without hookers and blow? I wouldn't want the ncaa attention

Did Freeze bang hookers or were they just for players?

Campbell is on the Matt Rhule path. His next stop will be in the NFL.

Why do I keep seeing this narrative? Auburn's classes regularly outranked ours. Even in our very best year (2016) Auburn was only a few spots below ours. Yet they were consistently in the top 10 the entire time Hugh was in Oxford. OM has had 2 top 10 recruiting classes ever.

I think people look at what Hugh did in 2013 and 2016 and try to turn that into the norm. As if we were pulling in out of state 5* every year. In reality we were usually around 15-20. His last class was 31st.

The question every SEC AD making hires wants to know. It's a real fear that there is a lot that was hushed up so he would go away quietly and not fight for his $18m or whatever he walked away from.

Not so sure. The HUNH rule changes that impacts Gustavo's O would have the same impact on Freezus.
