in general message board terms:

-3 refers to previous bats

bbcor refers to bats now.

I'm not disputing your technicalities, just telling you what is meant when people use those phrases.

I never claimed it was or wasn't our fault...just pointing out the specific bats we used at that specific time were atrocious, and put us at a disadvantage on the field. That's all.

I understand where you're coming from. I also thought you meant the NCAA made bat changes in 2008.

Whoever made the call to go to Nike should have been shunned by UGA though. Horrible decision.

Went to LSU scrimmage and have one of the new ones and compared to the old ball seams are noticeable. Bats will always be more of the difference but LSU did pepper some balls during the scrimmage, it will increase offense but the ball is not going to fly out of the park, you will see more doubles and gap hits than before. The biggest difference is that OF will not be able to play as shallow as we've seen the last couple of years which was choking off the singles. There will be more scoring without having to bunt guys over constantly just to generate offense. If you come to the park expecting gorilla ball you will be disappointed.

The bats were modified twice if I remember right. BBCOR did not come into play until sometime after 09 season but the bats LSU used in 2009 were less than those used back in the gorilla ball days. Corbin was the one bitching about the 09 bats and somehow Vandy is the only team still raking the ball with 98 mph pitchers - I want the supplements they are using.

They used big barrel -5's in those days. That was just too much.

the discussion has already moved on to other talking points...but yes we were using different (very shitty) bats than the other teams that CWS. Our fault, but still at a disadvantage.

I really don't see it having that much of an impact on the distance of each hit ball. What it will do is take the break away from a lot of pitchers, thereby creating more hitter-friendly pitches. Thus more balls will get hit further.

I'm not upset by the lowering of the seam profile. But if they're trying to fix the fact that the bats neutered college baseball offenses, they're going about it the wrong way.

Yea bring back the 2009 bats or just go to wooden bats. Simple.

The past few years have been frustrating, not because of the low scoring, but because even if you were only down 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth you didn't feel like there was much chance to tie the game up with one swing.

I don't know why people are so afraid to just say it, the games were awful with the new bats. It changed the game in the complete opposite direction of gorilla ball. It was terrible and they should have fast tracked these balls last year IMO to make up for the dreadful impact of the new bats.

If their goal was to decrease the ball's velocity coming off the bat then they did need to deaden the bats. The game was perfect with circa 2008 bats IMO, but if I recall their intent was to increase safety not limit the offensive production.

Theoretically the new balls will generate offensive numbers closer to the previous bats while maintaining the ball's safer velocity. We'll see.

Glad to see this happen. They did a sports science on it a few years ago.

Ball will travel farther but shouldn't get is back to the gorilla ball days before the new bats, and it's harder for pitchers to throw junk.

Also gets the balls closer to what the mlb uses which is a positive
