if there are 5 or 6 undefeateds, there very well could be. And the deciding factor will be their OOC schedule

No, there won't be. Anyone who goes through the SEC West and SECCG undefeated will be included into a 4 game playoff. The SOS will be plenty good enough, especially with the p5 mandated opponent.

So all things equal(records) you seriously think OOC schedule wont be the deciding factor? They arent using what conference you play in as determining factors for the votes...

A team's strength of schedule is one of the most pertinent considerations for the committee in making its selections.[

The selection committee is made up of members of other conferences, I am sure they will just bow down and proclaim the SEC is the best...

Not triggered. Just don't really get the point of the topic. Doesn't every SEC team schedule cupcakes ?

Regular Season OOC Power Opponents for current SEC West teams since 2009:

10- LSU
9- Alabama
8- Auburn
8- Arkansas
5- Texas A&M
3- Ole Miss
2- Miss St.

That stat sums it all up in a nutshell.

People that schedule those powerhouse games that also play in the SEC are basically idiots, outside of Alabama. There is nothing to gain. Playing in the SEC is plenty good enough for your SOS

Talk to Auburn's 2004 team.

There hasn't been more than 4 undefeated teams in a season since 1951, so you are talking about something that isn't going to happen in the first place. But since we are talking about it, yea, the SEC is pretty much known as the best conference in the land. To go through it undefeated in the SEC West would put you in a playoff. The SOS from going through that gauntlet would be enough.

You would have a point if this was 2004 and there were only 2 teams that made it into a playoff. However, there have not been more than 4 teams go undefeated since 1951, so I don't think that's going to be an issue. Certainly not a high enough possibility to go schedule Michigan just in case some retarded scenario comes to fruition.

I agree, but people from other conferences dont. those same people are the ones who vote. Those same people arent going to care about conference records first.

With 1 loss it could possibly become an issue (but it would depend on how many other 1 loss teams there were). However, the chances of you having 2 losses and not even being considered for the CFB playoff because you scheduled some stupid game is higher than you not getting into the CFB playoff because you scheduled Iowa State instead of Ohio State and ended up with 1 loss.

Irony in this post.... UGA's SoS in this time period only topped that of State 50% of the time.

That sums up nothing actually. Why should a weaker team schedule tougher opponents? That would make no sense.

SOS takes into account conference schedule as well(I realize the op includes conference schedule), that post is simply stating/showing what MSU can schedule on their own and its been sub standard[SEC] for mullen's tenure. He should have included UGA as well, but their number will be at the top.

I realize that and it is fair. The point I was trying to get at is with having 2 OOC games per season over those 8 Seasons, I'm in no way giving UGA credit for the GT game because that's getting scheduled anyway, they didn't exactly overcome the fact that state only had 2 power 5 teams scheduled.

Really, other than the rivalry game, over that time UGA had a home and home with Clemtech and they started the season vs UNC last year. Not exactly lining up juggernauts themselves.

UGA ooc teams sans Tech,

OSU
ASU
CU
BSU(non power 5, but top team)
Clem x 2
UNC

Thats 6 games from p5 conferences and BSU, that doesnt include Tech. So they have played 14 games vs p5 opponents vs 2 for state.

ETA, feel kind of dirty sticking up for UGA here...

The real question in all of this is, how bad do you have to feel about your own program to go after Mississippi State on a message board in June?
