It IS a big deal. They're going to upset us in the next few years, and then you'll eat your words.

Two aggy girls were on I-10 headed to BR for the football game. A state trooper stops them near Lafayette. They both exit the vehicle. As the trooper walks up, he unzips his pants. One Aggy tells the other "Damn, third breath test since we crossed the border.". The game does matter.

A&M quit their main rival Texas. Now they are begging LSU to be their rival so their move to the SEC will not be a failure. But, dispite all the begging from the Aggies, LSU still does not care about playing them. At best they are LSU's 5th most hated rival.

When you have not beaten LSU in 21 years in football means you have to brag about something. Cue the bragging about a towel.

People think the same thing now about the Alabama-LSU game. I wonder what happened.

So much irony in this post.

Not really. Even 25 years ago A&M was not LSU's main rival. LSU really did not care about playing them that much then either. If the series ended this year it would be insignificant to LSU though LSU has beaten A&M in football like a drum. Easy wins every year.

A&M needs LSU. LSU does not need A&M. Does feel forced now.

Except y'all quit on them after 5 in a row in the 90s.

And here you are, begging me to be your rival, do you have more rivalry towels to hand out?

Texas A&M contributed to the LSU woes in that stretch. LSU won the 1990 meeting, but the Aggies took the next five, which also were the last five games between the schools before LSU cancelled the series with two games remaining after the 1995 game in College Station.

That move sparked some friction between the schools, which contributed to them not renewing the series. With the SEC going to a divisional format and eight conference games in 1992, then-LSU Athletic Director Joe Dean said he couldn't afford to give up one of three non-conference home games every year.

"You've almost got to have seven home games to pay the bills," Dean said. "That's all it was. Some of the A&M people felt because we were losing to them we didn't want to play anymore.

"It was peaceful, friendly. It wasn't ugly. I thought we'd wait a few years and reschedule them when we could manipulate the home-and-home series with the SEC."

Crow had a different point of view.

"I said, 'Get out of another (game)' because this game means too much for us,'" Crow said. "We would sell the stadium out for LSU. Them and Texas were only ones we did that."

LSU eventually refused to play the final two games and the schools settled the matter for $100,000. Attempts by LSU to renew the series have been rebuffed, insiders say, because of lingering hard feelings over breaking the contract.

Hoy crap.

Texas A&M was begging to be our rivals back then too. Wow.

Ole Miss will always be your true rival. Not Alabama and the series with A&M would have kept going... But y'all bitched out.

That's just a fact.

Good to know that too. Good post.

And it was not that important to LSU back then. We quit our number 5 rilvalry. Big deal. A&M quit Texas after losing 9 of 12. They quit their number one rival. Big difference.

Bama quitting the Auburn rilvalry is a little more significant than if Bama decided to drop an out of conference series vs Georgia Tech with 2 games remaining.

I don't know that begging is an accurate characterization, but it certainly was a big game--from our perspective, anyway.

Fair assement. I think it was bigger for LSU back then because it was the first game of the year which instantly brings hype and excitement. Now the game is around Thanksgiving which means it is a snooze fest for both teams for the most part.
