I know the point of the Rant is to put down other teams any way you can while building yours up, but I have noticed that the rhetoric regarding Little Bro-ism cuts both ways:

-If a program ignores their little bro status, and acts like they are a proud and worthwhile program independent of any other in the state, then the response is

"Lol, don't you know you are a little bro?"

-If a program embraces their underdog status and tries to take actions to improve their program within the reality of that status then anything positive they do for themselves is painted with the same brush:

"Lol, that is so little bro."

Note I am not asking for sympathy, I am just wondering if anyone can even fathom a third option that is immune to the little bro criticism.

Is there a magical third option for action that is NOT little bro?

And I mean a real option that is doable, not something stupid like "win five national titles in a row and then you are a big bro."

Dude, it's the Rant. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, sports related is immune to SOMEONE giving criticism. Just don't let it rustle your jimmies.

Does just winning a bunch of games in a row do it? Was A&M LSU's big bro in 90's?

And I would say this qualifies, but that Aggie would have to fight with a host of other programs to determine who was LSU's big bro in the 90s.

We weren't anyone's little bro at the time, more like foster bro. Truly a dark, dark time.

So, if I say "frickLSU®" am I "little bro" or "big bro"?

When LSU fans say "4in a row, bitches" are the big or little bro?

When Aggy steals Chavis, is Aggy big bro or little bro?

When LSU replaces said stolen DC with Kevis Steele?

When Aggy makes LSU play on Thanksgiving?

When Joe Allegra says "frick Thanksgiving"?

When LSU thinks it has superior talent but is proved wrong?

When Aggy points out that said talent is pretty much equal with supporting data?

When LSU fans ignore data?

When Aggy laughs at LSU for getting blanked by Arky?

When LSU fans laughs at Aggy for getting blanked by Bama?

Gonna need a big bro / little bro judgment call on these.

You mad, lil bro
LSU adopted a&m, so they feel right at home with having a new big bro.

Why the hell did you bump my thread just to bring it down to a third grade reading level?

Edit: I see why now.

LSU is just a team that can't beat Bama so they constantly proclaim lil bro this, lil bro that to get attention.

In reality they are just an average West team and have been since we entered the conference.

The Big Bro/Little Brother thing is silly. It's funny how it can rattle some.

It's something I never really heard used or talked about until tRant. Of course, UT and Vanderbilt don't quite have that type of relationship. I mean they could technically be called as such by us I guess but I think we've always thought of them differently. They're the new private school (weird since the name Vanderbilt seems old enough) and we're the old (we are very old in terms founding) public school (oldest secular university this side of the continental divide and for those who don't know pretty much everyone was founded/affiliated with a religion for a pretty lengthy period even the University of Chicago which was a Baptist affiliated school).

I think this is all because Vanderbilt has never gotten in the way despite the rivalry and many of us are Tennesseans who appreciate having a 'prestige school' that employs a lot of people, is involved in helping people, has a great hospital that allows Memphis, Knoxville and Nasvhille to each have a premiere hospital and for each of these hospitals to have different specializations you'll be flown in for if you need, and various other stuff. So even though some in Mid-state hate Vanderbilt football, I don't think anyone hates the university.

Maybe they are our Lil Bro who deep down we're proud of? Well except those who like to act all snotty about it. Which drives me crazy from an academic standpoint since I know that despite Vandy being a more valuable/prestigious degree is not a better education. Many public unis (esp. the flagship campuses) have long since narrowed the gap on that front but what a school like Vandy can offer is invaluable: connections, connections, connections. And of course, a prestige degree.

I couldn't really say. I lived in Myrtle Beach several years ago and 'Clemsoning' was the running joke.... At the time, everyone I associated with would favor USCe as the dominant program in the state.

USC was hardly dominant in comparison to Clemson as a program during their 5 year streak against Clemson, if you look at their respective seasons as a whole. Here is a look at the first season of SC's streak against Clemson.

2009
SC 7-6 (5th in SEC east) Best wins other than Clemson are at home against Ole Miss and at NC State.

Clem 9-5 (1st in division) wins at #10 Miami, and at home vs Florida State.

Common opponents: NC State - SC won at NC State 7-3, Clemson won at NC State 42-23

Clemson beat Kentucky in bowl game 21-13. SC beat KY 28-26 at home.

Clemson had 3 losses to highly ranked teams: lost to no. 12 ranked G Tech in regular season and in ACC title game. Lost to no. 14 TCU 14-10.

Clemson won its bowl game against Kentucky, SC loss its bowl game against UCONN.

The CLem-SC game was in Columbia that year.

From 2008 (dabo took over this year) to last year, Clemson has gone 64-29. SC has gone 63-29.

Looks like the programs have been on the same level since 2008.

Tommy Bowden went 7-2 against SC and Dabo won in 2008.

I don't think 'Clemsoning' was an expresson back then and people in SC def. did not see Clem as SC's lil brother at that time.

If you say so.

I was a Katrina transplant who didn't really understand the Clemson-USC dynamic... but the impression left on me by those with whom I kept company was that USC was superior to Clemson in every way.

ok, doesn't make any sense though.

It def. has more students and alumni. There is a University of SC at Union and a University of South Carolina at Beaufort - Hilton Head campus.

When little brother just doesn't quite describe the obsession, little sister supplants it in popular culture.

Once fans of other teams not involved in the rivalry begin to sense the desperation and sorrow and weirdness of little sister, you start to get comedy gold.

When the little sister designation becomes what is the virtual identity of the team and it's fans among fans of other teams, that is when it is satisfying to know they have been labeled that way.
