Barnes was a great recruiter at UT that is all
In terms of coaching there are many better

Tournament Appearances with Rick Barnes as head coach: 16

Tournament Appearances without Rick Barnes as head coach: 17

Sweet 16 Appearances with Rick Barnes as head coach: 5

Sweet 16 Appearances without Rick Barnes as head coach: 5

Elite 8 Appearances with Rick Barnes as head coach: 3

Elite 8 Appearances without Rick Barnes as head coach: 4

Final Four Appearances with Rick Barnes as head coach: 1

Final Four Appearances without Rick Barnes as head coach: 2

BLUF: Of your 111 seasons' worth of basketball, Rick Barnes has 48.5% of all tournament appearances, 50% of all Sweet 16 appearances, 42.9% of all Elite 8 appearances, and 1/3 of your Final Four appearances.

Let's go a little deeper:

Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, Rick Barnes is responsible for 16 of your 25 tournament appearances, 10 of your 17 round of 32 appearances, 5 of your 7 Sweet 16 appearances, 3 of your 4 elite 8 appearances, and your only final four appearance.

Because of how many players did he put into the NBA
Before Barnes compared to Barnes look at UT draft picks or players who played meaningful NBA minutes

I'm with you on your main argument but this isn't a great comparison point

-Barnes had more years at UTx
-Barnes inherited a team that made NCAA tournament 8/10 years

No he is actually proving my point that Barnes was a great recruiter
With his talent that he recruited don't you think he actually should have done more in his time

Barnes had 16 draft picks in 15 years
Before Barnes UT had only 26 draft picks in 50 years
After Barnes 1 draft pick

Don't even attempt to compare the Southwest Conference to the Big 12 as a basketball conference.

They and Arkansas were basically the only two teams worth a shite in the SWC. The second the Big 12 was formed, they were immediately behind Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State in terms of program relevance.

Really the last time they were really good was in 2007-2008 when they were ranked either #2 or #1 for a good part of the season. Pearl was the head coach

Shaka Smart, the greatest coach in the history of college basketball, managed to win only 10 games this season.

Barnes' worst season was 16 wins. He missed the tournament once his entire tenure there.

They lost by 1 in the Elite 8 in 2010 and 2 in the Sweet 16 in 2014.

Shaka is better in terms of actually on court coaching but running the program he may not be so

He will have one more year to prove his worth then if not he could be sent down the road like Strong and Garrido

Clearly because in Austin, you only get three seasons to prove your worth unless you're the right skin color.

A&M tried this claim and it did not work because of A&M's horrible history in dealing with people of color

Your East Texas fanbase and the counties that a lot of your students come from prove this

Behind the Pine Curtain still whistling Dixie

UT is known as a multicultural university in a open city

Just look like what happen during the ICE raids in Austin.

Facebook was littered with reports of sightings you think the people of Jasper or Marshall were doing the same
