There were barely any games that mattered week 1.
The teams who played in games that mattered actually moved.

As an A&M fan I love it. I want us to have a chip on our shoulder.
If you win the games you need to win in the SEC you will be where you should. Everybody knows this is a strong conference

How in the world is Texas A&M behind LSU?
How in the world is this even a question?
LSU too low. List is shite.

So LSU should be punished for a game getting cancelled? The expectations for LSU should be the same.

Bretos should have his vote taken away.

I think pre season polls are one of the worst things about college football.
Teams are given a ranking and their performance on the field has yet to even be seen. Then, after a week like we had, a team like Ole Miss, who just destroyed their opponent is hardly rewarded because people say that's just what they're suppose to do. In this example, had their been no pre season rankings, Ole Miss would be a top 15 team. Teams like Michigan State and Oregon who struggled with Western Michigan and Eastern Washington, respectively, would be ranked modestly as they should be and would be able to prove on the field how good they truly are.
I was watching a replay of the LSU vs. Florida game from 2007 and during it Kirk Herbstreit said he thought, at that time, USC and Oklahoma would make the championship and those were his picks. Oklahoma had just lost the week before to an unranked Colorado team and during the game USC is upset by Stanford. As LSU seals the game Brent asks Herbstreit again what he thought of the top 2 teams and he STILL says without hesitation he has USC as the best team in the country and then follows that up by saying something to the effect of. "and watch out for Oklahoma now too, they're right behind them."
All because in the preseason those were the two teams he felt were the best. Rather than letting their play on the field determine who the better teams were he already made up his mind. That is what is wrong with college football and the playoff system does not change that.

Texas A&M only at 16 after beating 15 in convincing fashion,
I wouldn't say that... we scored 2 in the last 4 minutes. It was a 7 point game up to then. Still, we were clearly the better team. How's that for objectivity.

I was listening to nationally syndicated ESPN radio this weekend, and Max Bretos, who I'm typically a big fan of, was explaining his ballot.
His logic for 3 or 4 of his top 10 votes was something along the lines of, well their schedule is easier so I expect them to have a better record at the end of the year. Robert Smith, his co-host, was taken aback. "So, you don't vote for the team that you THINK is better, just the one that you think will have a better record."
Bretos was shocked that Smith didn't follow his logic.
This has been an issue for a long time. The problem is people are stupid, and don't understand what a ranking system is. They don't understand that when ranking teams you put them head to head on a neutral field and decide which one you think is better. If Notre Dames first 5 games were against Ohio State, Alabama, TCU, Baylor, and Michigan State, and they went 0-5, they would fall out of the rankings the entire season and never get voted back in because of 5 losses even though Notre Dame could still be the 9th best team in the country.
For some reason people are just stupid and can't comprehend this. Rankings are rankings, and standings are standings, the two are separate.

Doesn't matter, OP. The committee poll is all that matters.

Now you understand why some of those AP National Titles were BS awarded by morons.

Late season polls are almost always pretty good though.
Early season polls are often terrible. They are meaningless window dressing that causes idiots to get happy/angry.

I think the AP & Coaches poll influence the committee somewhat.

The entire college football championship system has been full of BS since it began.
Biased towards certain teams since the beginning.
You had as many as 5 national champions in a given year pre 1980
You had national champions crowned before bowls until late 1960s
You didn't even have consistent #1 vs #2 title games until the mid 2000
Why is it so hard to have an 8 team playoff and tie the top bowls into it and don't start polls until week 6. Just have a bunch of power rankings or something if you feel the need to rank teams before then.

Its so damn early...geez. Bama is losing at least two games...so relax. AU will be one of them.

Politics and revenue rule the polls.
