Dooley's Philosphical Change on Offense

quote:

One of the reasons why Derek Dooley chose to close practices from the public during the off-season was to hide the drastic philosophical changes to the Vols' offense. In case you missed it, Tennessee surprised many by utilizing a no-huddle, fast paced offense that illustrated a shift from Jim Chaney's philosophy over the last couple of years.

Mizzou runs the Hurry Up No Huddle (HUNH), as well as A&M. Arkansas can do it when they want to, and now Tennessee is on board. Auburn ran it under Malzahn. With any success at all, I expect it may grow in popularity in the SEC. Sorry we are breaking your offensive molds.

We run the no huddle around 70% of the time. Get to the line and then look to the sideline.

Rumor is the HUNH is a big part of The Secret Playbook at LSU.

Guess we'll find out.

Without Cam Newton or Lee Tiffin playing against you, it's a 7-8 win offense.

Its worth 50 points per quarter for Oregon.

Correction, in a low defense league with a highly mobile QB and stable of fast RB's and a smaller D in better condition than your handicapped competition. It will work then

The hurry up has been around for awhile but Coach Kelly is changing things. The LSU D now practices with only 8 seconds between play, if for no other reason than conditioning.

We'll just keep physically abusing everyone on the line of scrimmage.

The limited bit of offense we produced yesterday against Louisville was done running no huddle. Strong and some of the players even came out and said specifically that it bothered them on defense.

That said, Mumme and Leach was running no huddle as part of the Air Raid offense at UK back in the 90s so it's not exactly something new that's been done in the SEC. The offensive mold had already been broken.

You can do both. A&M is as physically dominant on the OL as anybody in the nation (or not far behind) and will run a HUNH. We strive to run 110 plays a game. UF averaged 70 plays last year. It's definitely something they've had to practice for

Then Malzahn installed and abandoned it twice at two different schools, soon to be a 3rd if he wants to have a career.

It is nothing new, but Aggie thinks SEC defensive coordinators are going to be so shocked by it being used they won't know how to stop it.

Lol, Tennessee has run the no huddle in the past(2007 team). This is nothing new to football.
