Yea b/c we always allow 3-9 coaches to stay around.

Y'all had just won a championship the year before. If Alabama wasn't so good that championship buys him at least another year or two.

Uhh, it was 2 years before.

And I don't think any sane person could look at the results & progression of the program in those two years and feel it was heading in the right direction.

No one is arguing the Gene Chizik/Tuberville angle except Dale Denton. Every AU fan is saying both firings were a result of Saban.

no it doesn't, and it has nothing to do with Alabama. The writing was on the wall that the program was going straight into the crapper under Chizik. The players didn't care, were underconditioned and improperly coached. They had no discipline, we were having people get arrested like we were Georgia or something, and we were the subject of NCAA scrutiny time and time again.

3-9 is not acceptable at Auburn. It's too proud of a program to allow itself to wallow in failure of that magnitude. Realistically, it didn't help that Alabama was as good as they were, but Chizik would have gotten fired if Alabama sucked noodles in 2012.

Deny it all you want, but a coach in a similar situation any where else at least keeps his job for one more year.

Be real with me for a second, with everything that was going on with Auburn football that year, did you really think they were going to do much better the next year? Did you really think Chizik could right the ship?

How did you think the overall future of the program looked under his watch? I didn't think it looked very good. Honestly, all he showed me was that he was a good motivator and he lived and died by his assistants. He was a supposed defensive mastermind that could never field a good defense (very concerning).

Auburn did what they had to do.

Chiz was gone because he wasn't a good coach. I don't care if Saban or Donald Duck was coaching at Alabama at the time. Chiz was canned because of Chiz. Tubs was fired because of Saban. I'd agree with that.

Just objective enough to admit it. Same way that I can admit I am super jealous of y'alls basketball hire.

I was on my way to take a midterm this morning and my buddy who went to Auburn texted me about Pearl taking the job. Completely ruined my train of thought for like the next half hour.

Meh.

I agree with what the poster above said. Saban got Tuberville fired. Realistically, he deserved another year to right the ship. I don't think he would have been able to.

Chizik got Chizik fired.

Honestly, I don't see what Saban did to lead to Chiz's firing. I can see it with Tubs, but what did Saban do to lead to Chiz being canned?

To say that the 3-9 record wasn't also related to bama in the firing is not being truthful to me. If AU had gone 4-8 with a win over bama, Chizik would have gotten another year probably.

But that's not to say it's just an AU thing...plenty of bama coaches have been fired because of AU. Hell, they want their coach and AD fired before Pearl has even coached a game.

Don't buy the little brother bullshite they spew on here...it goes both ways.

You are gonna tell me a coach who had just won a school their first championship in 50 something years is going to get fired anywhere else because of 1 bad season.

Auburn realized they couldn't wait to see if he could fix things because their biggest rival had just won their 3rd championship in 4 years, so they canned his arse.

I'm just saying it definitely accelerated the process.
