the same way it helped out Auburn in football when Saban was hired.

Auburn fired Tuberville who dominated Saban and Bama to hire Gene Chizik.

And then got to the championship game twice, and won the SEC those years.

hopefully it forces AD's across the conference as a whole to upgrade.

If the criteria for Bama is a basketball coach who has dominated Auburn, they will have a long list to work from.

Tub's dismissal was a combo of the Board hating him, and their fear that shite had changed dramatically in the state after '08. I personally think he could have held his own, as he always bounced back at AU...but I'm also in the minority.

I think Pat Dye and Cliff Ellis would still be the coaches at Auburn if you were a BoT.

Chizik probably gets a few more years if it weren't for Saban's success.

The point was it wasn't like Chizik was some home run hire forced by the hand of Bama.

He was hired with a losing record as a HC.

He was too loyal to his friends as his assistants than he was to improving the Auburn football program. He wouldn't fire them and therefore he wouldn't have turned it around. I like the guy, and he could have kept us competitive had he parted ways with his duck hunting buddies.

I agree. Auburn's bold move will do one of two things to Alabama basketball. It will either light a fire under Grant and force him to change his entire coaching philosophy and the team will respond and make the NCAA tourney or he'll be canned next year if he misses the big dance and Alabama will pay a borderline obscene amount of money to buy a big name coach.

Dye was before my AU time, and Ellis I never gravitated to. I had a close friend who worked for Tubs so I'm a little too close to that situation to think logically...admittedly so!

No one is saying Chizik was a hire in response to Saban. They're saying, rightfully so, that the Tubs firing was a reaction. AU got turned down by a bunch of coaches before they ended up with Chizik...hence the "Booooo, we want a winner, not a loser" tarmac welcome to JJ.

In accolades, yes it is not appropriate. In the meltdown caused, I'd say it's right on par. Hell, according to some, Battle should already be fired.
