While I don't think you can dub any one player as the GOAT in any league, especially the SEC, Derrick Thomas would be as deserving as any.

DT was best player IMO to ever wear crimson. Thats saying something when you have players like Joe Namath, Kenny Stabler, Bart Starr, Lee Roy Jordan, Cornelius Bennett, David Palmer, Ozzie Newsome, Don Hutson etc

......who the frick is Carl Lawson?

Exactly...another ho hum DE

Anyone that doesn't think DT wasn't the greatest football player in SEC History doesn't understand football and just how tough what he did was. No one will ever reach either stat even with the CG and 2 PO games.

The only one I would say could possibly have an an argument is Barry Sanders 1 season at Ok St if he were playing in the SEC and like DT's record, his rushing records will never be touched. Bo and/or HW weren't ever good enough and as a result didn't come close to the numbers he put up in 1 single year and that is how DT's stats are as well.

He is the best player to ever don a Crimson jersey and the greatest to ever play in the SEC

Well deserved CFHOF induction DT

Give me Reggie White, but there is no wrong choice.

Though not on the same level as White or DT, Honey Badger is up there on the list of best defenders as well. Its really hard to impact the game as much as he did from the corner position.

Roll Tide.

Dude was an animal in college, has got to be considered a top 3 pass rusher in the NFL as well.

Just imagine a defense that had all three :)

Don't know if I'd say greatest player in SEC history, but one of the greatest defenders in SEC history for sure. Glad to see it finally happen; it was long overdue...

Lawson will break his sack total

I like Lawson...he's not a thug and I think he'll be a great pass rusher the next couple of years...but in this era of football, I don't see him (or any one else in the near future) getting any where near 27 sacks in a single season nor 52 for a career...in the last 5 years, the highest sack total in a season has been 17 (Von Miller)...I think the game has changed where 20+ sack seasons will be very few and far between...

I think the 52 for a career will eventually be surpassed at some point...it's already been tied (Bruschi)...but I think it'll take a player that plays all 4 years. That's the reason I don't think Lawson will surpass it...I don't see him staying 3 more years...there's a premium on pass rushers in the NFL and if he continues to progress and puts up good sack numbers, he'll leave after his junior year...

One of the least known, underappreciated players ever. He was a man among boys. GREAT player of his day.

DT was great. I think a more logical title is "arguably one of the greatest defensive players in sec history".
He may get the nod over reggie white for me bc he transcended his position.
Also, if you cant admit that Carl Lawson has the makings of being great, you are a fool.

Agreed. From everything ive read about Hutson, he was a beast during his time, especially in the NFL.

I think the Hall of Fame really wanted this to be the Derrick Thomas class. Lots of great players, but nobody outshines Thomas in this class

So we know Shane Conlan, LaDainian Tomlinson and Derrick Thomas are new CFB Hall of Famers. 11 more players and 2 coaches to be announced

I remember watching DT play his first game as a freshman against OSU in the Kickoff Classic. He almost caused Bama to lose because of penalties on two consecutive hail mary passes at the end of the game. Despite his near catastrophic phuckups, his athleticism was obvious. He was all over the field in that game.
